Penn revealed that the fake dead body "was rigged so that it would bleed when you cut into it."
To say Penn Badgley's Joe Goldberg was back on his murderous bullshit in season 2 of Netflix's You is an understatement. He's back, but his bullshit is even bigger this time around. And his murders? They're getting more and more gruesome as the show goes on.
In episode 2 of the new season, there's one particularly horrifying murder scene (you already know which one I'm talking about) that, according to Penn, sounds even more horrifying from a behind-the-scenes perspective.

Speaking to TV Line, Penn dove into the logistics on how they shot that shocking scene and it sounds both incredible (from an SFX point of view, not a murder point of view...obviously) and absolutely vom-inducing at the same time.
In episode 2, Joe works to return the money owed to a guy called Jasper, who has cut off Joe's little finger as collateral (hence the title 'Just the Tip'.) At the climax of the episode, Joe ends up killing Jasper, cutting him limb by limb and shoving his body parts into a meat grinder before dumping bags worth of minced human meat into a dumpster.
Despite seeing quite a lot on screen (more than we all would have ever hoped to see in our lifetimes, actually), Penn revealed that “there was a lot more that you didn’t see.”

“We had a life-sized, very authentic prosthetic body,” Penn explains to TV Line. “It was a headless body that was extremely realistic to touch and sight. All of the body hair, each hair, was a real human hair that was applied individually. So the amount of human labor that went into this body was pretty great. It was rigged so that it would bleed when you cut into it. There was also a removable arm."
First of all, congrats to the SFX team because that sounds amazing. Second of all, OH! MY! GOD!
Penn continued: "It was really interesting to talk to the people who made it, because they were all so sweet. They just love horror movies, and they have this really pure love of craftsmanship and handiwork. In a way, it was exciting — and then came the time to cut into it. That part was nauseating, actually. Very surreal.”
According to Penn, that particular kill was his favourite one of the season, because it was “the most viscerally felt.”
Yeah, that vomit in the sink was almost real on our end too.
