Halsey stuck up for one of the more underrated characters from The Umbrella Academy and fans had a lot of opinions.
Like the rest of us, Halsey appears to have enjoyed The Umbrella Academy. The Netflix show, which is based on the Gerard Way comic series, has broad appeal, even with the celebrity set, it would seem. Over the weekend, Halsey mused about one of the more underrated characters on the show and the internet was not necessarily on her side.
The singer tweeted about about the chilly reception Luther has been getting from fans, asking, "why are you guys so mean about luther?"
me: why are you guys so mean about luther? his father sent him on a suicide mission to DIE and he had his whole body transformed into something he rejects and now he feels alone, unwanted, and dysphoric. he feels literally inhuman.

you guys: ape man !!!! 🤣🤣🤣
The character of Luther, played by Tom Hopper, has garnered the ire of many Umbrella Academy fans. His treatment of Vanya near the end did not earn him points with viewers, either.
Fans quickly made their feelings about Luther known but Halsey still had a soft spot for Number One.
OK YEAH but don’t invalidate his situation from the jump! https://t.co/md28mx5MGd

Eventually Halsey finished The Umbrella Academy and finally understood why everyone was unhappy with Luther.
Ohhhhh. I just finished UA. Now I know why u guys hate Luther hahahaha

To be fair, it's understandable why some fans might empathise with Luther before getting to the part where he imprisons Vanya. He did lead a pretty lonesome existence prior to Reginald Hargreeves' death and the return of his siblings.
I think we can ALL agree that Gerard Way has us majorly in our feelings since The Umbrella Academy dropped.
I can’t believe I’ve been arguing with a comic book fandom on Twitter all day this is Gerard Way’s fault
