After reports of delays, the third SpongeBob SquarePants movie is officially happening - and it has a name and release date. Fans had to wait 11 years between the first and second films, but it looks like that wait will be slightly shorter this time around.
Reportedly, Paramount Animation announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that the upcoming third movie will be officially called The SpongeBob Movie: It’s A Wonderful Sponge.The film will be released on July 22, 2020, 11 years after the first and 5 after the second. The development of the film was announced last May with a projected release of 2019, but it was pushed back a year. The first two films were major successes, making $465.3 million between them!
This is exciting news for fans of the cartoon which will have been around for over 20 years by the time It’s a Wonderful Sponge is released. SpongeBob is a major cultural touchstone and has resurfaced again through endless cycles of memes, so this is likely to be another hit.
