Robin's coming out storyline in Stranger Things 3 is praised by fans

WE MUST PROTECT ROBIN AT ALL COSTS!
If you have already binged-watched the entirety of Stranger Things 3 then, firstly, we want to congratulate you on your life decisions. That was a good call. Give yourself a pat on the back and treat yourself to something nice this weekend.
If you have not watched all of Stranger Things 3, then please go back to wherever you came from and return when you've finished as MAJOR SPOILERS lie ahead. If you really don't want to leave this website (and, honestly, who would blame you?) then go play some of our spoiler-free Stranger Things quizzes. You're welcome.
Stranger Things truly had us gagged this season for several reasons. The end credit scene has left us wondering if Hopper is actually dead and we're still not over Mike potentially outing Will Byer as gay. One thing that we particularly loved, however, was Steve's new BFF and Scoops Ahoy colleague Robin, played by Maya Hawke, coming out as gay.
The coming out scene itself was especially moving. After working all summer together and narrowly escaping death to thwart a secret Russian operation under Starcourt Mall, Steve and Robin end up having a heart to heart in the cinema toilets (I mean, who hasn't done that?)
After Steve professes his love for Robin, she breaks it down for him: "Listen to me, Steve. It shocked me to my core, but I like you. I really like you. But I'm not like your other friends."

Robin then references a conversation earlier in the show, when they are both reminiscing about their high school days. "Do you remember what I said about Click's class? About me being jealous and, like, obsessed? It isn't because I had a crush on you. It's because she wouldn't stop staring at you [Tammy Thompson]...I wanted her to look at me. But, she couldn't pull her eyes away from you and your stupid hair. And I didn't understand because you would get bagel crumbs all over the floor. And you asked dumb questions. And you were a douchebag. And you didn't even like her and I would go home and just scream into my pillow."
"But Tammy Thompson's a girl," Steve says, still not getting it..
"Steve..." comes Robin's response. It takes a moment but then he finally gets it. "Oh... Holy shit"
Coming out to people can be hella awkward, and it can also cause a lot of anxiety. While you would hope your friends and family will be supportive, that isn't always guaranteed. Even today, the conversation often does end badly for many queer people.
Steve, being the nice guy that he is, is quick to put Robin at ease (by making a joke at Tammy's expense, but still. "Tammy Thompson, she's cute and all, but...I mean, she's total dud". Robin and Steve quickly go back to joking around and being friends.
People were going wild for Robin coming out, and her friendship with Steve on social media.

steve harrington confessed his feelings for robin only to find out she’s a lesbian and rather than take it to heart and exude fragile masculinity, he accepted her and didn’t even take it as a big deal, despite it being 1985 and so uncommon to be gay. and that’s why i love him.
