Shonda Rhimes Is Basing Her First Netflix Project On a Scandalous True Story

The next big series from the 'Grey's Anatomy' creator is coming.
Shonda Rhimes may have only recently left ABC but she's not abandoning her TV empire anytime soon. She's expanding it. The How to Get Away with Murder producer has just signed a multi-million dollar deal with Netflix and now she's revealed what her first project with the streaming giant will be.

Together with Netflix, Shonda has gained the rights to turn Jessica Pressler's popular New York Magazine article 'How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People' into a series. The exposé was only released in May this year but it immediately became part of a bidding war to be adapted for TV or cinema and Netflix and Shonda came out on top.
'How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People' follows the true story of Anna Delvey who scammed the rich and glamorous of New York's social elite into believing that she was a wealthy German heiress. Not only that but she also actively conned many of them into paying for her luxurious lifestyle. After years of deceit, her fraudulent activities eventually came to light and she's now an inmate in New York’s Rikers Island prison.
Think Gossip Girl with a little more grit and drama to it. Now that Shonda has changed companies, it is currently unclear if her Anna Delvy series will adopt a similar tone to her ABC projects or if it will be completely different. One thing we know for sure though is that this new tv drama is going to be amazing. Actresses including Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie have already reportedly expressed interest in the role and Shonda and Netflix never fail to deliver.
In spite of her highly-publicised Netflix deal, Shonda will still be overseeing work on all of her current ABC series. So there's no need to panic if you are a full-time subscriber to the Shonda Rhimes way of life. Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, For the People and Station 19 are all still on air and not getting cancelled anytime soon.
Shonda is not the only major producer to make the move to Netflix. American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has also signed a major deal with the platform and will likewise create new content with the brand while also working on the likes of American Crime Story and Pose for FX.
We cannot wait to see everything both he and Shonda do with the company. In the meantime, we will be waiting with bated breath to find out more about this Anna Delvy series. It sounds incredible.
