Shay Mitchell has been open with fans about her journey to motherhood. She even documented her pregnancy for a YouTube original series, Almost Ready, with partner Matte Babel. Shay Mitchell and Matte Babel announced the arrival of their daughter Atlas back in October and Shay has already dealt with the trials and tribulations of internet mummy shamers. Most recently, the actress and businesswoman clapped back at a person shaming her for a breastfeeding photo posted to Instagram.

This week, Shay posted a photo of herself breastfeeding Atlas during a photoshoot. In the stunning photo, Shay wears green and cradles her daughter to her chest while looking straight at the camera. It's a strong shot that looks like it could be a part of a Vogue spread, but not everyone was happy with the "breast friends" photo.
While praise poured in from hundreds of fans, there were, of course, critics. Comments by Celebs captured the moment Shay responded to a commenter who criticised the new mum for *checks notes* looking at the camera instead of her baby (???).
"I'm a fan of her," wrote one commenter. "But this picture just says but it's an attention getter. She's not even looking at the baby, she's not connected with the baby she's connected with camera [sic]."
Shay was quick to respond and shut down the nit-picking over the shot.
She said: "I missed the part in the baby books that stated I had to maintain eye contact with my daughter while she feeds rather than capturing an amazing moment we were having. Pls let me know where I can download your parenting manual, I'll get right on it!"

If ever there was proof of how ridiculously high our standards are for mothers (celeb and non-celeb), look no further than Shay Mitchell being criticised for not looking her baby in the eye while breastfeeding.

The shot is clearly supposed to be editorial in nature and Shay has other photos on her Instagram that show off her adorable connection with baby Atlas. Plus, Shay is a first-time mum.
