'Riverdale' Is Adding A "Cult Leader" And He Sounds Like Bad News For Alice Cooper

It looks like Alice Cooper will find "support" through the mysterious new-age "health guru."
Production on Riverdale season three is days away from beginning and new information has started to trickle in. From potential plot lines to new characters, fans are starting to form their theories about what's going to happen in the next chapter of the show and it sounds like it's going to be dramatic AF.
Alongside the introduction of Jughead's mum and little sister Jellybean, it sounds like two more characters are about to move into town - father/daughter duo Edgar and Evelyn Evernever - and their presence will play heavily into the dynamic of the Cooper family.
If you're not up to speed with what happened to the Coopers at the end of season two, allow us to fill you in real quick: Chic is not the real Chic. The real Chic/Charles is "dead". Hal was revealed to be the Black Hood, or at least one of them. He is arrested and sent to jail after confessing to Betty and Alice. Betty is shook, Alice is a MESS and Polly is acting far too suspicious for me to even consider her as one of my favourite teenagers anymore. Polly tells Alice that she knows of a man at the cult farm where she's been staying who can "help her", Alice accepts and the scheming Polly shadily sips her tea. And that's where we left the Coop fam.
And now, thanks to a casting call spotted by That Hashtag Show, it sounds like Polly is about to make good (or evil) on her promise because the show is looking for an actor to play the role of Edgar Evernever, a new-age "health guru" who sounds suspiciously like the very man Polly was talking about inviting into town. (He also quashes the theory that the guy Polly was taking about was the real Charles Smith too. Sorry about it.)
Here's the casting call and character description that was issued for the role:
[EDGAR EVERNEVER] Male, Late 30’s – Early 40’s, Open Ethnicity. A recent arrival in Riverdale with his daughter Evelyn, Edgar is a new-age health “guru” who has helped Alice get her life together after the events of Season Two. He’s attractive, in a neighborly way, and charismatic—a wise, comforting presence. (An actor with ‘90’s-2000’s pop-culture cachet is a plus.) MAJOR RECURRING GUEST STAR.
Now, you and I both know this is NOT going to end well - nothing ever does on Riverdale. While it hasn't been explicitly said that Polly is in a ~cult~, there's a possibility that the "farm" will end up being some kind of spiritual sect, which means Edgar is already a suspicious character who I do not trust in the slightest.
What if it's a trap? Alice, who is all vulnerable and shit right now, is going to fall right into said trap, be taken advantage of and (probably) end up in danger. She's gonna put aaaaall her trust in Edgar only for it to come crashing down again?! We just got rid of one manipulative man in Alice's life, we don't need another!
Not only that, his presence in Alice's life could possibly throw a wrench in the progress of the relationship between her and FP Jones. At the end of the second season, both Alice and FP were at rock bottom. Given their history and interactions over the season two (👀), fans thought the beginning of season three would finally be the moment we get to see them reunite in support of one another. But apparently not, so it would seem. Well, not yet, at least. (Pack supplies, this slow burn is gonna take a while. Forsythe, start planning the rescue mission now.)
Of course, this is all speculation (he might actually be nice!) but what's a little speculation between friends, ay?
Edgar's daughter will also be joining him in town. Evelyn Evernever, described as an omnipresent and otherworldly, will be spending her time in Riverdale doing whatever she can to get closer to Betty. Again... VERY suspicious.
As for who will be playing Edgar? No casting decisions have been announced so far but we do have some ideas of our own. As per the description, the character is around the age of 40, who is charismatic, empathetic and low-key hot... and needs to be played by an actor with a big 90's and/or 00's on-screen presence.
Scott Foley, who starred in the late 90's/early 00's show Felicity and who recently played the scheming Jake Ballard on Scandal, could work in the role pretty well. Beverly Hills 90210 star and ex-cast mate of Luke Perry, Brian Austin Green is also good shout. As is 00's slasher and teen movie icon Freddie Prinze Jr., who has also worked with Mädchen Amick on TV before. He's our current front runner. Someone make the call. Please and thank you.
