Will there be a second season of Netflix's Sex Education? The show's creator Laurie Nunn has already given a few hints about season 2 but when will season two come out?
Netflix's new teen comedy-drama series Sex Education was an instant hit with fans on the streaming service and it's just been confirmed that it's coming back for another season. Sex Education season two is coming - in fact, filming has just started.
The show stars Asa Butterfield as Otis Milburn, the teenage son of a sex therapist (played perfectly by Gillian Anderson) who ends up providing a series of therapy sessions for his classmates and their sexual... shortcomings. The series is hilarious yet thoughtful, inclusive, sex positive and it focuses on subjects such as coming out, masturbation, revenge porn and abortion in an honest, touching and sometimes very full-frontal way.

After just a few days on the streaming platform, the series already received a ton of incredible reviews from critics and viewers alike who are all dying to see more of what happens to Otis, Maeve, Eric, Adam, Jackson, Ola, Aimee and the rest of the students at Mooredale Secondary School and they're all asking one question: when will Sex Education season two be released?
Here's everything we know about Sex Education season two:
Will there be a season two of Sex Education? Is Sex Education season two... coming?
Yes, it was confirmed by Netflix that season two is on the way. Creator Laurie Nunn revealed that the writers were already working on season two, even before the renewal.
Speaking to Thrillist, Nunn said: "We have started working on it, but we will not find out obviously whether we will get another series for another couple of months. It's all up in the air. We definitely started thinking about it. So we have some ideas which is exciting."
When will Sex Education season two be released?
In May 2019, Netflix confirmed that production on season 2 has begun and the first read through had taken place. It's coming, y'all! It's coming!
Sex Education is a pretty straight forward show that can be filmed quickly, once the scripts are in place. Casting for season one took place in May 2018 and the show aired nine months later. We could be expecting either a late 2019 release date or an early 2020 release date. It all depends on how long it takes to shoot the season, obviously.
How many episodes of Sex Education season two will there be?
There will be eight brand new episodes so get ready!
Sex Education season two cast - who will return?
Given how season one ended, it's expected that all of the cast members will return for some more drama and sex therapy shenanigans at Mooredale Secondary School.
Asa Butterfield will obviously return as Otis Milburn alongside Ncuti Gatwa (Eric), Emma Mackey (Maeve), Kedar Williams-Sterling (Jackson), Patricia Allison (Ola), Tanya Reynolds (Lily), Aimee-Lou Wood (Aimee) and Gillian Anderson as Jean Milburn.
Connor Swindells will also be reprising his role as Adam Groff, although it'll be interesting to see how much he features, seeing as he was driven off to join the army at the end of season one.

What will happen in Sex Education season two?
Like we said, a lot of season one's storylines came to a satisfying head in the season finale but the show still left a lot of storylines to be explored in a potential second season. We saw Otis finally act on his feelings towards Ola and manage to masturbate without losing his shit. We saw Maeve come to terms with the fact that she liked Otis, only for her to catch him kissing Ola. Will they reconcile or will they never talk again? Will Maeve go back to dating Jackson? Will she ever be allowed to come back to school? We also saw Adam and Eric get together but what will happen next? With Adam now in the Army, how will he cope with dealing with those feelings that environment and how will Eric deal the revelation of those feelings without him?
At the end of the season, we saw Otis close down his therapy sessions at the school, but now, given his own ~personal developments~, will he pick it back up? Will he join forces with Maeve again? And also, WHAT will happen between Otis' mum Jean and Ola's dad Jakob? Will they continue sneaking around or will they eventually commit to a relationship despite their kids also being involved? Will she ever publish her second book or will she do right by Otis and let him explore his sex life in peace?
In the same interview with Thrillist, creator Nunn also revealed that she'd be up for exploring more of Mooredale and spending more time with characters like Lily and Aimee. "I'm just totally in love with all the characters and I just want to spend more time with them," she said. "Series one is very much Otis' journey and I think he will again, if we're lucky enough to get a series two we will always come back to Otis. He's a fantastic leading character but the fact that we've got this great ensemble and these amazing young actors who have also just brought so much to those characters."
"It just feels like they could go anywhere. I love the idea of getting different characters together. If not together in a relationship, just together in the space. Like, I never thought those two characters would have a conversation and there will be loads of opportunity for that."
