You probably missed this easter egg in 'Russian Doll' even though it was right in front of your eyes the whole time.
Netflix's Russian Doll had no shortage of twists, reoccurring references, reveals, and easter eggs. Russian Doll is about a woman who relives the night of her death over and over again. That might sound tedious, but the show kept it fresh throughout all 8 episodes and even managed to throw in some hidden details only eagle eyed fans will have spotted.
As Buzzfeed discovered, comedian Yoni Lotan appears in Russian Doll as multiple characters named "Ryan" and in multiple episodes. We didn't catch on at first, but did you spot him while watching?
He's kind of a smug dude in this scene and gets in Nadia and Mike's faces on his way out.
Come to think of it, he's a little smug in this scene, too. Nadia's boss assumes that the error in the code came from her work but she soon clears up that it's the result of a bug left in the code by someone else.
Remember the scene where Nadia is trying to convince the EMTs that she is lucid? Yep, he's there too. Interestingly enough, there is a line in this scene where one character says "my mom loves me", which mirrors a line in from the code meeting scene.
It's unclear why the writers/creators of Russian Doll made this storytelling choice but it's a fascinating one. Russian Doll is certainly a series that aims to capture your attention.
From the very beginning, the show challenges you to notice the tiny details that are altered in each of Nadia and Alan's realities. In one scene Nadia even references an easter egg she puts in her video game (a character modelled after Tatum O'Neal in Paper Moon).
"Ryan" being a seemingly random selection of men is definitely an iconic little easter egg in Russian Doll which ties into the timeline twist at the deli. It also hints at the multiple timelines theory in Russian Doll.
