Noah Centineo's character in The Perfect Date divides Netflix viewers

Brooks Rattigan (Noah Centineo) has split fans of 'The Perfect Date'...
Noah Centineo is back in another Netflix rom-com, The Perfect Date, but fans are roasting his character Brooks Rattigan.
The Perfect Date debuted on Netflix last Friday (Apr 12) and it wasn't long before almost the entire internet had watched it all back to front. Netflix has good form when it comes to creating popular teen rom-coms and Noah has already played the love interest in two of them (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser). Noah plays the lead in The Perfect Date but Netflix viewers aren't as keen on Brooks Rattigan as they were Peter K and Jamey.
Why are Netflix viewers dragging Brooks Rattigan?
Brooks isn't all that different from your classic Noah Centineo rom-com character but there are a couple of major things that are turning people off him. In the opening scene of the film, he reveals that one of his heroes is Elon Musk (a choice) and he fails to list anyone female in that list (Oprah is right there). He also does multiple things in the film that are shady, which he never really pays any consequences for.
He abandons his best friend Murph on various occasions, despite promises to meet up (letting down friends is never a good look), he lies to numerous people (a lot!) and he really is unnecessarily a dick to Celia when they fake break-up (he deserved that slap). He does apologise for these things (kind of) but the damage is done and, while some people are charmed by his character, others are not.
Here are just a few of the reactions to Brooks.

We didn't even mention the scene when Brooks runs to Celia to be his back-up date at prom as soon as he's been rejected by Shelby for lying to her. Again he apologises for this (and Celia puts him in his place) but it makes it hard to warm to him.
Peter Kavinsky reigns supreme.
