Only Murders in the Building season 2 has only just stopped airing and Only Murders in the Building season 3 is on the way.

Ever since Only Murders in the Building debuted on Hulu in 2021, fans have been obsessed with the comedy series. The hit show tells the story of three true-crime-obsessed neighbours who join forces to solve an actual murder in their building. It's funny, it's gripping and it stars on-screen legends Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver) and Selena Gomez (Mabel).

Only Murders in the Building season 2 debuted on Hulu on June 28th this year with episodes airing weekly but what about season 3? When does Only Murders in the Building season 3 come out?

Has Only Murders in the Building been renewed for season 3?

Hulu officially renewed Only Murders in the Building for season 3 on Jul 11. Using the official, Only Murders in the Building Twitter account, they wrote: "My neighbors have a special message for you all: #OnlyMurdersInTheBuilding will return for Season 3! Now I just have to worry about who's next... I hope it's not me!" alongside a video announcement.

Selena Gomez also retweeted the tweet adding: "So excited for SEASON 3!!!"

Selena herself actually appeared to accidentally let the news slip ahead of season 2 coming out. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Selena revealed: "I finish season 2, I did my cooking show, now I’m going to be in the studio until season 3. Basically, we’re going to be working on new music."

Elsewhere, Only Murders in the Building showrunner John Hoffman told Metro: "There’s so much hope for a season 3 that comes from all of us. Everyone involved in the show has really loved this experience. And so, we are very hopeful about a season 3 and as a little bit of a tease, the story lends itself at the end of our season 2."

He added: "So hang tight at the end of season 2. We do aim towards a new something or other leading us to season 3.’

When is the Only Murders in the Building season 3 release date?

There's currently no word on an Only Murders in the Building season 3 release date just yet. However, given that season 1 premiered in August 2021 and season 2 is set to debut on June 28th this year, it seems likely that the beloved show will return with season 3 at some point in summer 2023.

Seasons 1 and 2 are both 10 episodes long so we imagine that season 3 will also have 10 episodes.

Who will be in the Only Murders in the Building season 3 cast?

While Hulu are yet to confirm full cast details, our guess is that the main cast will be back for more mysteries and mayhem. In other words, expect to see our fave trio Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver) and Selena Gomez (Mabel) again.

In the Only Murders in the Building season 3 announcement video, Selena Gomez teases: "All of your favourite characters are gonna be returning for season 3!" In other words, we imagine that recurring characters like Da'Vine Joy Randolph (Detective Williams) and Tina Fey (Cinda Canning) will return for more mayhem.

Perhaps biggest of all, it's now been confirmed that Paul Rudd will be taking on a central role as actor Ben Glenroy in season 3. The new season will actually revolve around Ben's murder.

Finally, showrunner John Hoffman has also told Variety that he would love Harry Styles to join the cast. He said: "Harry Styles should be visiting the apartments in the Arconia. Why not?"

What will happen in Only Murders in the Building season 3?

Based on the season 2 finale, it looks like the Only Murders in the Building season 3 plot will revolve around Charles, Oliver and Mabel investigating the murder of Ben Glenroy. In the episode, we learn that Ben is set to star in Oliver's new play alongside Charles. However, just as the opening night performance begins, Ben tragically dies on stage.

Who is responsible? As it stands, it remains unclear. It's made clear that Charles and Ben do not get along, so Charles will likely be a suspect in the case. However, our bet is that the real killer will be someone we don't expect.
