Following a flawless second season, fans of Netflix's family sitcom One Day At A Time have been pushing for the streaming service to renew the show for season 3 - and it's now finally been confirmed!
The critically acclaimed sitcom, which is constantly praised for the way it tackles important issues like mental illness, immigration, sexism, homophobia and racism that face Latinos living in the United States, will be returning to Netflix for a third season on February 8 2019. The series will return with its ensemble cast comprised of Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz and Stephen Tobolowsky.
From the trailers, the cast and what might happen next in the series, here's everything you need to know about One Day At A Time season 3:
It was confirmed by Netflix that season 3 will drop on the streaming service on Friday February 8th 2019.
Like the previous two seasons, Netflix has ordered another 13-episode season, so you'll get your full fix of Lydia, don't worry!
Well, you can bet that the iconic living legend and EGOT winner Rita Moreno will be back as Lydia, alongside the rest of the Riera/Alvarez family; Justina Machado, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz. Todd Grinnell as Schneider and Stephen Tobolowsky as Dr. Berkowitz will probably also be back.
Tony Plana and James Martinez will also probably make a few appearances as Berto and Victor, respectively.
Thanks to its huge success and critical acclaim, we might even be blessed with a few more iconic actors joining the already incredible line up. In July, it was announced that Gloria Estefan, who sings the show's theme tune, will be making a guest appearance. She'll be playing the role of Mirtha, Lydia's baby sister and arch-nemesis. Get ready!
Seeing as the show loosely follows a sitcom format, literally anything could happen to the family. A third season will probably see Penelope and Lydia chase romantic interests. Elena and Syd's relationship will probably progress, there'll be family dramas and of course, Schneider will find himself in some pretty interesting situations.
Speaking to Uproxx, showrunners Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce are keen to push forward with the mix of comedy and hard-hitting emotional subjects, something that sets the show apart from it's peers.
One Day At A Time has already touched on important issues that face the Hispanic community and families in general. It has dealt with topics like PTSD, depression, and anxiety amongst veterans, as well as sexuality, gender identity, sexism, racism and religion. In the season finale, the show even dealt with Lydia in a medically-induced coma after having a stroke and how her family came to terms with her possible death.
So, you can probably expect more of that, with a bucket of Moreno one liners thrown in for good measure.
Not yet! But when there is, you can find it here...
