On My Block returns for season 2 and Olivia's fate has finally been revealed. Olivia is dead on On My Block and Ruby, Cesar, Jamal, and Monse are grieving and handling the fall out of the shooting at the quinceañera.
Is Olivia dead in On My Block season 2? The second season of On My Block picked up where fans last left off and, while Ruby (Jason Genao) survived his gun shot wound, Olivia (Ronni Hawk) wasn't so lucky. As season 2 opens up, fans finally have confirmation that Olivia does not survive her quinceañera gun shot wound.
What happened Olivia in On My Block?
In the final episode of On My Block season 1, Olivia has her quince at Ruby's house. Amid the celebration, Olivia and Ruby confess their feelings for one another and kiss. Excited and happy, they take to the dance floor along with Monse and Cesar.
While they are dancing and having fun, Ruby sees Latrelle enter the party and calls for Cesar. Knowing that Latrelle is about to shoot, Ruby turns Olivia away from him in an attempt to shield her from the gunshot.
Despite Ruby's efforts, they are both hit. Ruby is hit in the upper chest and Olivia is hit right in the middle of her chest. Though we hear her call out to Ruby and she is responsive at first, she obviously dies from her wounds while Ruby survives.
Cesar also feels guilt for Olivia's death. He was supposed to kill Latrelle, but he let the Phantom gang member go, instead. Letting him go led to Latrelle coming to Olivia's party and shooting her and Ruby.
How does season 2 address Olivia's death?
Though Olivia's death is a huge plot point in season 2, Ronni Hawk does not return for flashbacks or dream sequences.
In the opening scene of On My Block season 2, we see Jasmine paying her respects at a street tribute for Olivia. At the end of episode 1, Ruby, Monse, and Jamal visit the street tribute and say a few words for her.
Her funeral and memorial are not shown.
Fans are processing Olivia's death through the lens of Ruby's grief. Ruby has PTSD from the experience. When Ruby hears loud popping or other sights and sounds that remind him of the night of the quinceañera, he experiences panic attacks.
The impact of Olivia's death has implications for other members of the core four besides Ruby. Cesar's gang affiliation and the fall out from the shooting gets him kicked out of his brother Spooky's house. Cesar experiences homelessness because all of his friends' parents are fearful that allowing him to stay with them will invite violence like the type that killed Olivia.
Cesar feels out of place wherever he goes. Whether it's at Jamal's house or Ruby's, Cesar can't seem to shake the feeling that he's unwanted or in the way.
