Haven't had the chance to catch Matilda the Musical? Well, it's coming to Netflix.
Every '90s-'00s baby will know that Matilda is one of the best movies. Ever. Danny DeVito getting his hat glued to his head? Bruce Bogtrotter eating an entire chocolate cake? Miss Trunchball being generally terrifying? There's not much better. Well, the classic Roald Dahl tale is coming to Netflix.

In 2018, Netflix joined forces with the Roald Dahl Story Company to bring some of the famed author's stories to life. The streaming service planned to create animated versions of our favourite childhood tales, including The Twits, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the sequel Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. At the time, there was no release date for the movies but production was meant to start in 2019.
Apparently, Netflix and Sony Pictures are now working on a film based on the stage production Matilda the Musical, which is based on the 1988 children's book Matilda by Roald Dahl. Matilda the Musical, which centres on the story of an intelligent young girl with special powers living with her terrible family, has been running in London's West End since 2011 and has also been on Broadway.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be directed by Matthew Warchus (who is married to actress Lauren Ward aka Miss Honey!!) and will be released in UK cinemas only. It'll then roll out worldwide on Netflix.
There's no word on when the release date is, but according to a recent casting call, rehearsals start in June 2020 and production will run from August to December 2020.
All we're saying is if Mara Wilson (who played Matilda in the 1996 movie) doesn't get a role, we riot!!
