A new Game of Thrones meme is everywhere and it involves Daenerys' dragon wings...
'Film studies' memes are breaking the internet and it's all thanks to Daenerys' dragon wings in the Game of Thrones finale.
Game of Thrones may be over but the memes keep on coming. Yesterday alone, the franchise blessed us with the Bran the Broken meme and the Brienne writing meme. Not to mention the finale itself resulted in some of the funniest memes the TV series has ever inspired. The Game of Thrones fandom isn't done just yet though and now Daenerys' dragon wings in the episode have been immortalised in the form of the 'film studies' meme.
The final episode may have disappointed many fans but one thing about it, which received nearly universal praise, was the cinematography - and one shot in particular stood out. Before Daenerys addresses her army in King's Landing, after burning down the entire city, Drogon takes off from behind her. The 'shot' is perfectly timed so that it looks as though Daenerys actually has dragon wings herself. A true dragon queen.
Multiple people were quick to single out the moment on Twitter and one person wrote: "shot is brilliant and should be shown in any film study class". Naturally, this sparked debate. Some people thought that it's a pretty obvious metaphor, meanwhile others weren't sure if it was that impressive beyond CGI. The internet then began using the quote and applying it to other iconic (and hilarious) scenes.
