The Pretty Little Liars actress joins the cast of the Riverdale spin-off as the main character.
Looks like the Riverdale spin-off just found its leading lady because Lucy Hale has been cast as Katy Keene in the upcoming Katy Keene series.
Pretty Little Liars alum Lucy will be playing the role of bold, big-hearted and independent Katy, "a twenty-something New Yorker who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city." The show is set to be a musical-drama too, so you can probably expect Lucy to belt out some hits.
Lucy joins Riverdale's Ashleigh Murray (as Josie McCoy), Jonny Beauchamp (as Jorge/Ginger Lopez), Julia Chan (as Pepper Smith), Camille Hyde (as Alexandra Cabot) and Scream Queens' Lucian Laviscount (as Alexander Cabot).
If you cast your foggy minds back to 2017, you'll remember that there were rumours about Lucy joining Riverdale after fans misinterpreted an Instagram conversation between her and Madelaine Petsch. That didn't come true of course (turns out she was filming different show in Vancouver) but it looks like the universe came through and delivered the goods for real this time. Kind of.
While the two shows will exist in the same universe, there will be no crossover (at least not yet), so the chances of seeing Lucy in Riverdale will be slim to none. There will be no back door pilot to establish the character of Katy either, due to the fact that there's a large time gap between the two shows.
"Katy Keene takes places years after Riverdale High School," said Mark Pedowitz, the president of The CW. "There are no plans to do anything [regarding a crossover]. Any of the Riverdale characters who come to Katy Keene will be older."
As of right now, The CW has only ordered a pilot episode of Katy Keene. A full series order will hopefully be announced soon.
