Julie and the Phantoms cast perform ‘Edge of Great’ live
Will there be a Julie and the Phantoms season 2 on Netflix? Here's everything you need to know about the future of the show.
Julie and the Phantoms may have only just dropped on Netflix but fans already want to watch a second season of the series.
Helmed by High School Musical and Descendants director Kenny Ortega, Julie and the Phantoms tells the story of Julie (Madison Reyes), a gifted teenage girl who stopped singing after her mother passed away. With the help of a band of literal ghosts, Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner) and Reggie (Jeremy Shada), Julie finds her love of music again.
Not only is the show both funny and moving but it also ends on a massive cliffhanger. With that in mind, here's all you need to know about season 2, including the release date, cast, trailer, spoilers and exciting news about what's to come.
At the moment, Netflix are yet to reveal whether or not Julie and the Phantoms will be returning to the platform for a second season. However, Netflix often wait up to two months after a show has come out before revealing whether or not they'll be renewing it. With that in mind, we should find out whether or not we'll be seeing more of Julie in the coming weeks.
Showrunner Kenny Ortegas is definitely keen for a second season though. Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "We have some big plans for season two, to go even further into our stories, and even further into our music. We hope to maybe even take this on the road, and tour Julie and the Phantoms as a live musical experience."
With the show yet to be officially renewed, there is no Julie and the Phantoms season 2 release date as it stands. Netflix are also known for waiting to drop release dates weeks before shows come out, so we probably won't find out anything about when we'll be seeing Julie and the Phantoms season 2 until 2021.
Netflix tend to release new seasons of shows annually though so we imagine that Julie and the Phantoms season 2 will air on the streaming service around September 2021.
The official Julie and the Phantoms trailer on Netflix
Again there's no confirmation just yet but it seems likely that all of our faves from Julie and the Phantoms season 1 will come back in season 2. In other words, expect to see Madison Reyes (Julie), Charlie Gillespie (Luke), Owen Joyner (Alex), Jeremy Shada (Reggie), Jadah Marie (Finn), Savannah Lee May (Carrie), Booboo Stewart (Willie) and Carlos Ponce (Ray).
Not to mention, Nick (Sacha Carlson) and Cheyenne Jackson (Caleb Covington) will no doubt both be back to act out the aftermath of season 1's cliffhanger.
We imagine that season 2 will pick up right where season 1 leaves off. In the final episode of season 1, Nick shows up at Julie's house in an attempt to win her back. However, Caleb suddenly possesses Nick's body. It looks like Season 2 will focus on Caleb using Nick to try and trap Luke, Alex and Reggie's souls.
We also reckon we'll see the Julie, Nick, Luke love triangle develop further and Julie and The Phantoms reach greater heights of success as a band. Expect more drama and much more music.
Plus we'll hopefully get confirmation as to whether or not Rose from the first episode is Julie's mother and the exact backstory of her connection with Sunset Curve.
Speaking about season 2 with Entertainment Tonight, Madison Reyes has already revealed that Julie and Luke won't kiss. She said: "No. I don't really think so. Well that's what I like about their relationship so much it's a deep connection." Kenny Ortega then added: "I think, agreeing with Madison, there's so much we can show without having to physicalise it."
Meanwhile, in the same interview, Booboo Stewart teased that he wants more Alex and Willie in season 2. "I want a full-blown relationship to come of it, for sure. I, personally, really enjoyed doing those scenes. There's something special there and I'd really love to dive deeper into that."
As for what Owen Joyner wants for Alex and Willie, he said: "I hope, personally, there's a little drama 'cause I think that would be funny. It would be fun to play off of Booboo. Me and the boys, we hope Booboo can come back. We all grew as friends. I don't know, I hope he can come back and maybe help us on the good side this time."
There's no Julie and The Phantoms season 2 trailer right now However, we shall update you as soon as there is.
