It looks like Jonathan Bailey’s role in MIchaela Coel's Chewing Gum series has gone viral thanks to his newfound Bridgerton fame, as people have only just realised that he plays Ash in the show. Jonathan appears as Ash in season 2, episode 2, titled ‘Replacements’. Michaela’s Tracey ends up going on a date with Ash, but she soon discovers he’s got a fetish for Black women. [Netflix]
Before Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey was probably best known amongst UK viewers as Olly Stevens in the ITV series Broadchurch. Jonathan appears as journalist Olly in the first two seasons of the show. Speaking to British GQ about his sexuality, Jonathan opened up about his coming out experience. “I thought that in order to be happy I needed to be straight,” he said after recalling advice given to him from an actor friend who is also gay. His perspective eventually changed with time: “I reached a point where I thought, ‘F--k this', I’d much prefer to hold my boyfriend’s hand in public and not be so concerned about that than get a part."
