Jane the Virgin: Who is the narrator? This Mateo theory will blow your mind

Jane the Virgin will finally reveal who the narrator is in the season 5 finale...
Jane the Virgin fans are convinced by this theory that Mateo is the narrator and it sounds like it could actually be legit.
Ever since Jane the Virgin first aired back in 2014, viewers have wondered who the narrator could be. Much like the narrator in Gossip Girl, they not only know intimate details about the life of their show's protagonists but there are also multiple hints that they're a real person. Jane the Virgin showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman has since confirmed that the narrator is a real character in the show and we will find out who it is in the season 5 finale.

With that in mind, it's no surprise that, as the series draws to a close, people are coming up with theories as to who the Jane the Virgin narrator could be. One of these theories sounds spot on.
Who narrates Jane the Virgin? Is it Mateo?
Currently the most popular Jane the Virgin narrator theory points to Jane's son Mateo. And when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Mateo, much like the narrator, is bilingual. Not only that, but he's one of the only people in the show who Jane would probably tell her full story to. Also Jane's story begins with her being accidentally artificially inseminated with her boss' sperm and Mateo being conceived; it's his story too.
Still not convinced? Mateo could have inherited Jane's creative knack for writing and might be carrying the torch for her by making her story into a telenovela. Mateo could also have inherited his grandfather Rogelio's acting flair, hence the narrator being so charming and funny. The narrator often praises Mateo (like grandfather, like grandson) and he literally says: "Oh brother or sister!" in reference to Petra's pregnancy.
There are some red flags. A few people believe that the fact that the narrator has a strong accent and Mateo doesn't means that it can't be him. Although what's to say that he couldn't be channelling Rogelio? Also it seems a bit unlikely that Mateo would go so in depth about some aspects of his mum's love life. Perhaps, but, if it's an adaptation of Jane's own work it could make more sense?
Other theories suggest that the narrator is Jane's grandfather speaking from the dead (in the season 3 finale he states: "And Xiomara? Well, she looked perfect. At least to the people who loved her most — which includes me" - Xo's dad would likely say that). It would be a nice twist too. However, pretty much everyone on the show loves Xo, so it doesn't confirm a single thing.
And the third big theory is that the narrator is Jane herself. She literally is the only confirmed writer on the show and always uses her own life as inspiration for her work. Could the show be the big project that she dreams of working on? Obviously this doesn't explain the voice but Matteo could be reading what Jane wrote.
Talking about this theory with Rolling Stone, Justin Baldoni (Rafael) said: "True story. This is what I thought too but they will not tell me if it's right." Something tells us that he could be onto something.
