Does IT: Chapter Two have a post-credits scene?

Long story short... No. There's no post-credit scene in IT: Chapter Two – and the decision was very deliberate.

Get your clown shoes on kids because IT: Chapter Two is finally here. Released in cinemas today (Sept. 6), the sequel to the 2017 horror hit takes us back to Derry 27 years later. Everyone is grown up and Pennywise is back but before we head into the cinema for 3 hours we all have one important question: Is there an after credit scene?

In a post-MCU world, most of us are used to sitting in the cinema long after the movie has ended. We spend valuable time watching the credits roll by in the wait for a short scene that we hope will drop some hints, either to solve the mystery of what’s just happened or to give us some sign of what’s to come next.

If you love post-credit scenes, though, you’re going to be disappointed by the end of IT: Chapter Two. There are absolutely no post-credit scenes at all, something that director Andy Muschietti (who also directed IT: Chapter One) says is very deliberate.

Speaking to the Huffington Post, Muschietti said: “Post-credit scenes a la Marvel normally have a very distinct function, which is tease people about a future movie,” he added that the move to not have one at all has its own purpose: “This is, like, the idea that this is over.”

This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise for fans who watched the first instalment, which also had no post-credits scene. However, that wasn’t always going to be the case.

Muschietti said, “Chapter One did have the idea to make a post-credit scene, which was Beverly Marsh picking up the phone. So, 27 years later, post credit, you would see a phone ringing. It’s an iPhone, so it’s impossible that it’s 1989, and a hand comes in and the camera wraps around this red-haired back of a head, and we turn around, and it’s Jessica Chastain!” 

The scene didn’t happen, of course, and it’s just because of scheduling conflicts – Ms. Chastain was too busy to film it. Still, considering Chapter Two is almost three hours long, maybe it’s best there’s no post-credits scene.

Get out, stretch your legs, and don’t sit around for an extra half an hour in a dark cinema.
