The Debby Ryan led dark comedy will return for it's second season in 2019 - whether you like it or not.
Despite intense backlash from the internet following what some people think might be Netflix's worst show of all time, Insatiable has been renewed for a second season.
The Debby-Ryan led series was not well received by critics (it still currently sits at 11% on Rotten Tomatoes) and garnered a mixed bag of responses from viewers; some thought it was a really great conversation starter, some thought the way they went about it was offensive, harmful and simply not executed well enough to pass as good satire.
Over 200,000 people also signed a petition urging Netflix to cancel the show before it even aired, citing warnings about the potential harmful way the show broached topics like body image, bullying, mental health and bisexual representation.
But it sounds like any press is good press for Netflix because Patty, Nonnie, the two Bobs, Coralee and everyone else who managed to survive the season are coming back for round two. Whether you like it or not.
Yep, Insatiable will be returning to Netflix at some point in 2019 which means, despite the online hate, enough of us managed to watch it the whole way through for the streaming service to go ahead with a second season.
While the majority of the internet aren't thrilled with the news (honestly, justice for Everything Sucks!), a second season of the show might not be such a terrible idea. Seriously. Insatiable always felt like it was very much on the verge of... something. The fact of the matter is, the satire - the one thing that was meant to give it the edge - just wasn't executed that well at all. Any insightful commentary about sexual orientation, body image, bullying or even the topic of abortion was almost always followed by weird throw away jokes that made those stand out moments feel paper thin and, at times, offensive. (Take Bob Armstrong's battle with his own sexuality for example. Nothing like a bit of casual bi-erasure sprinkled over those important moments, am I right?)
Here's hoping a second season of Insatiable can pull out all the stops, turn all the backlash around and give us the clever dark comedy we deserve.
