The Horrifying Car Scene In “Hereditary” Is Causing People To Walk Out Of The Cinema
13 June 2018, 16:26
"It’s almost been 24 hours since I watched 'Hereditary' and I’m still thinking about THAT car scene..."
Before it was even officially released, critics were calling A24's Hereditary the "scariest horror movie of all time," and judging by the reaction from audiences now it's been released, they were NOT lying.
The internet is absolutely losing it over the visuals and plot twists in the movie already. The memes are out of control and the reaction online will make you desperately wanna see it and also never ever lay your eyes on it at the same time in equal measure.
There's at least five scenes in the film that will 100% ruin your life forever but it's ONE in particular that everyone cannot stop thinking about - that horrifying car scene. If you've seen it, you know. If you haven't seen it, you're about to learn about it and then regret it.
NOTE: There will be spoilers in this article. If you don't want to be spoiled, do NOT scroll past this gif of Toni Collette screaming into the void.
Right then, here's what happens: In the first act of the film, Peter (played by Alex Wolff) goes to a party and brings his sister Charlie (Milly Shapiro) along with him. At some point during the party, Charlie eats a chocolate cake that has been cut with a knife used to chop nuts. She goes into anaphylactic shock and is rushed to hospital by her brother.
While she's in the car, she finds herself struggling to breathe so she opens a window sticks her head out to get some air before she suffocates. At the same time, Peter swerves to miss an animal in the road and... Charlie's head is taken CLEAN OFF by a pole on the side of the road. She's headless. Her head is no longer attached to her body. Decapitated. Gone.
The whole thing - from the struggle to catch her breath to the actual decapitation - will leave you shellshocked but it's Peter's absolutely paralysing and silent reaction (there's literally no sound, it drops out completely) that'll makes every single cell in your body freeze.
It's a plot twist that almost no one saw coming when they watched the film for the first time and people are still struggling to cope with the sheer AUDACITY of the scene and come to terms with what the FUCK they just saw.
Once you see it, you'll NEVER be able to unsee it. Ever.

There were moments in #Hereditary that left me shook. I mean like my jaw legit hung up for like 5 minutes straight. Toni Collette is a tour-de-force in the film, but Alex Wolff stole the show. That car scene disturbed me, just as much as the character

I’ve been trying to think of what I want to say about #Hereditary but I’d end up writing an essay. I will say, Alex Wolff in the car after THAT scene, unable to move, filled me with SO much anxiety/dread and it just got worse the rest of the film.

People are even making memes to cope.

Good luck.
