The show will no longer air on March 7. A new premiere date has not been set.
Paramount's Heathers TV series reboot has been pulled from it's original premiere date due to the Parkland school shooting two weeks ago.
The series was originally meant to premiere on March 7th on the Paramount network but the decision not to air the high school show in its original slot was made after 17 people lost their lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida on February 14th.
“Paramount Network’s original series ‘Heathers’ is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society’s most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence,” the network said in a statement. “While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year.”
Unfortunately, it's not the first time a TV show has been postponed after a mass shooting. And more shockingly, it's the second time this has happened in the past six months. One episode of American Horror Story: Cult that depicted a mass shooting at a political rally was almost delayed in the wake of the Las Vegas mass shooting. Instead, the network went ahead with an edited version of the episode.
According to the network, Heathers will eventually make it onto TV but a new premiere date has not been specified or hinted at. The first episode of Heathers was available to stream online but has since been taken down.
The series has already received a HUGE amount of criticism before it even aired due to the representation of the LGBTQ+ characters on the show so it might be a loooooong time before it even sees the light of day again.
