It's official: the sequel to The Haunting of Hill House will be released on Netflix in 2020 and will be based on The Turn of The Screw and set at Bly Manor.
Finally, some good news! Netflix has announced that The Haunting of Hill House season 2 will finally be coming to the streaming service in 2020 - but there's going to be one massive change to the horror story.
Confirmed by Netflix in a press release and an ominous teaser video on Twitter, the second season of the show will not actually be returning to Hill House and it will not revisit the Crain family either.
'The Haunting of Hill House' almost had a very dark and different ending
Instead, there will be a different location and the show will focus on “a new story with all new characters." Just like American Horror Story, it seems like Haunting of Hill House is set to become a never ending nightmare anthology. And judging by the first teaser, the season will be based on Henry James' horror novel 'The Turn of The Screw' and set at Bly Manor.
The news about a new location and a new family shouldn't come as a surprise to fans, seeing as creator Mike Flanagan confirmed that the Crain family's story was done and dusted at the end of season one.
“As far as I’ve ever been concerned with this, the story of the Crain family is told. It’s done,” Flanagan told EW.
At the moment, it's unclear whether or not the cast of season one will return to play new characters (like everyone in American Horror Story) or whether there will be a whole new host of actors joining the cast. As far as season one's cast goes, both Kate Siegel (Theo Crain) and Michiel Huisman (Steve Crain) were both totally down for returning to the series.

As for the new location? At first, Netflix didn't reveal that information. All the teaser trailer said was that the second season of the show will be called: The Haunting of *** *****.
People on Twitter started throwing hilarious suggestions at the wall including: The Haunting of Sea World, The Haunting of GOB Bluth, The Haunting of Lil Wayne, The Haunting of Sam Smith...
But thanks to the whispers heard in the background, fans already clocked the reference within minutes of the video being tweeted.
"The terrace and the whole place, the lawn and the garden beyond it, all I could see of the park, were empty with a great emptiness"

The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James.
The quote whispered in the background is from 'The Turn of The Screw' by Henry James. It's a psychological gothic horror story which takes place almost entirely at an old country mansion called... 'Bly'.
A synopsis of the horror novella? "Classified as both gothic fiction and a ghost story, the novella focuses on a governess who, caring for two children at a remote estate, becomes convinced that the grounds are haunted." Great. More scary children. More ghosts. Can't wait to be scared to go to sleep in my own home.
You guessed it. The HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, a new chapter in the Haunting series based on the works of Henry James, is coming in 2020. pic.twitter.com/nvhRBEfH2E
