Will there be an all-female Avengers movie? Here's everything we know so far...

There's one scene in Avengers: Endgame that has fans begging for the women of Marvel to unite in an Avengers movie - but will it ever happen? How will the A-Force be involved? And who will be in the cast?
With the release of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it has changed forever. Even though it's only been a week, we can't help but ask the all important question: What could possibly be coming next?

In July 2019, Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released but what's happening after that? A few more sequels are planned but none completely confirmed yet. There's a bunch of Marvel shows coming to Disney+ too but the big question is, could we actually be getting that all-female Avengers film? Judging by the overwhelming response to the women of the MCU in Endgame, it's looking more and more likely.

There's one particular moment in the film that features most of the women of Marvel coming together to help defeat Thanos. The sequence is pretty reminiscent of the A-Force, a female-led group of superheroes from the Marvel comics, and it's a real standout moment in the movie. Of course, it's already got fans rooting for the ladies to reunite in their own film.
A couple of cast members have already expressed their interest in that particular crossover before. Brie Larson wants it. Tessa Thompson is trying to make it happen. Evangeline Lilly is totally down for it. So, what do we know so far? Is it happening? Will it based on the A-Force? And more importantly, who will be in it?
What is the Marvel A-Force?
The iconic tag team efforts from the ladies of the MCU in the final fight against Thanos is a sort of call back to the A-Force, an all female team of superheroes who fight together in the Marvel comics.
A-Force was a comic book series first published by Marvel Comics in May 2015. It ended in October 2016 due to poor sales.
In the comics, Captain Marvel is the leader of the A-Force alongside several other characters who are not currently in the MCU: Dazzler Thor, Medusa, She-Hulk and Singularity. Nico Minoru from The Runaways also features in the comic.
In Endgame, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Rescue, Shuri, Okoye, Wasp, Gamora, Nebula, Mantis and Valkyrie all come together in a very A-Force way to aid in the final battle against Thanos.
What's been said about the all-female Avengers film so far?
Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel (duh), told CNET that she was totally down for it. “I’m still really into this idea of an all-female ‘Avengers’ movie," she said. "Getting all the women together and getting them to work as a team… would be so powerful and iconic.”
“Just because having just seen Avengers: Endgame, getting to see all of those characters on screen, you realise the beauty of these new superhero movies is that everybody has their own special skills they bring to the table. Their own, you know, superpower. And to see women work together, and in that way as a team, is not something we’ve seen enough of on screen.”
Speaking to Cinema Blend, Tessa Thompson referenced the A-Force, saying: "Obviously it’s been a long time coming for Marvel to have a movie led by one of their female characters that exists in the canon… Last year in the press there was this whole idea that I was on Kevin Feige about doing an all-female, A-Force or something. But really it just has to do with the fact that there’s so many incredible, talented women in the MCU that I just want to work with selfishly. So I’m like, ‘Well, why not do it in the context of like fighting folks and hanging out in space?’”
Evangeline Lilly also backed the idea of an all-female Marvel movie, telling us that Captain Marvel would likely the one to lead the group.
“Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead because she is a general? And she’s the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right, so maybe Captain Marvel would lead. I’d think so."
I think I’m being a bit old fashioned and maybe a little bit rigid about this, because if it is an all-female Avengers film, then the sky’s the limit. We can reinvent the wheel. We don’t have to do anything that anyone’s ever done before. We can just make it all up and change the game.”
Which female Avengers would be in the film?
The current roster of powerful, brilliant, show-stopping, never the same, totally different superhero ladies are:
Captain Marvel, Valkyrie, Okoye, Shuri, Nakia, Wasp, Nebula, Mantis, Scarlet Witch and Rescue aka Pepper Potts. There's also Janet Van Dyne and some potential S.H.I.E.L.D. action from Maria Hill.
Kate Bishop is also said to be joining the MCU at some point, and will pick up the Hawkeye mantle from Clint Barton. And we could also see Cassie Lang become Stature and maybe even lil' Monica Rambeau as Spectrum.
Seeing as it will likely be set post-Endgame, Black Widow (who died as a sacrifice for the Soul Stone) will not be involved. While original Gamora is still dead, 2014 Gamora came back with Thanos. Her current whereabouts after Tony's snap are unknown but the end of Endgame showed Quill looking for her on the Benatar's radar, so she's still might be out there.
When will it be released?
Well, nothing is confirmed yet but should Marvel decide to go ahead and start making moves on what could literally be the one of the best films in the MCU, we'll let you know.
