Elliot Page calls out people’s obsession with the gender binary

"I have not thought much about the remakes this far, but Elliot Page would really make this an interesting watch."

The internet is calling for Elliot Page to play Prince Eric in a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

Earlier this month, Halle Bailey wowed the internet (and the tiny children on TikTok) after the first teaser trailer was released for the upcoming live--action remake of the Disney classic.

With The Little Mermaid now firmly in the minds of people online, a tweet went viral suggesting The Umbrella Academy star Elliot could play the role of the beloved prince.

"Since they already mad I got an idea," tweeted Eli Erlik, along with an image of the cartoon Prince Eric and a trio of photos of Elliot.

Gaining a ton of traction – over 230.5K likes in just a few days – the internet was loving the suggestion that Elliot take up a future iteration the role, and so are we. Who’s going to start a petition, then?

"YES YES YES," one person replied. "Prince Eric was a huge childhood crush for me and I am so down to see Elliott in that role," said another, adding a heart eyes emoji. A third commented: "Perfect. I have not thought much about the remakes this far, but Elliot Page would really make this an interesting watch."

In the /r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns subreddit, fans were also calling for Elliot to play the iconic role.

"I have no interest in seeing another live-action Disney remake. But if they did cast Elliot Page, I would at least watch it on Disney plus,” one person said. A second person added: “He looks just like him! Give our man the job!!!"

While Elliot won’t be playing Prince Eric this time around – Jonah Hauer-King will play the role, and the movie has already finished filming – there are plenty of other Disney princes Elliot could play in a live-action remake. Cinderella’s Prince Charming? Flynn Ryder in Tangled? So many options!
