Dove Cameron responds perfectly to criticism over bra-less Instagram selfie

"It's only a big deal because this society is so beyond backwards that they have demonized basic anatomy and we are very! up! in arms! about female bodily freedom."
Dove Cameron has a PSA for everyone on the internet: Women's bodies are normal and boobs and nipples are nothing to be ashamed of! Duh!
Yesterday (Aug 13), the Descendants star took to Instagram to share two bra-less selfies with her nipples (yes, nipples... we all have them) on display under a white tank top. Her reason? To make a point about how society views the female body and because she f*cking wanted to, alright?!

This is not the first time Dove has been vocal about embracing the female body on her Instagram. Back in January, Dove posted a picture of herself posing in a bikini. Of course, because she's a Disney star, people were quick to criticise her for being 'too sexual' but she wasn't having any of it.
She responded by saying: "The human body isn’t offensive y’all. stop objectifying women so hard that you convince yourself that something natural and beautiful could ever be something offensive."
After posting the recent pictures, Dove was met with a ton of positive comments, praising her, her words and her empowering statement. One person wrote: "I am a 12 year old girl and I love how someone I look up to is showing her natural self," with another writing: “Take ur f–kin bra off if you want. Don’t hide your natural body"
YouTuber Niki Demartino also commented: "Finally someone from Disney showing the nature of being a woman. Loving this vibe." (Dove is actually one of several Disney stars who are outspoken on the issue. Miley Cyrus, Bella Thorne and Demi Lovato all continue to empower female sexuality through their social media.)
Lili Reinhart's mum Amy even reposted the picture with a caption saying, "The only thing that bothers me about this post is the women that are leaving comments about how horrible this picture is. Mass shootings are horrible. These are just boobs."
But because the internet has a habit of being triggered by some nips, Dove was also met with another bout of criticism – and you better believe she had time to respond to it.
When someone wrote "I just don't understand how people find this empowering or inspiring like she's not wearing a bra. It's really not that dee[p]," Dove responded by writing, "I agree with you in the sense that it is not that deep. Or groundbreaking whatsoever. Or anything really to talk about. But it's only a big deal because this society is so beyond backwards that they have demonized basic anatomy and we are very! up! in arms! about female bodily freedom."
"So technically, it's not a big deal, and it shouldn't be, and the idea behind posting something like this is to normalize it because a lot of girls feel confused about their bodies and what it means to be a woman (in a surface way, on this specific subject, about sexuality and men and who their body belongs to bc of long-lasting systemic repression.)"
"Don't hide, if you wanna, and wear a bra, if you wanna. But don't hide to avoid the backlash. Because you don't deserve to have assholes giving you shit about YOUR BODY."
PERIODDD!
