One of the biggest Broadway flops of all time gained a huge cult following and is now the subject of The CW hit's first musical episode.

Fans of Riverdale have been getting hyped for the show's long-awaited musical episode, entitled 'A Night To Remember', which airs on The CW at 8pm on April 18th.

But this won't be an original song and dance affair with Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and the gang instead taking part in a version of the musical Carrie based on the novel by Stephen King.

When was Carrie the musical first performed?

Originally produced in 1988 by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Carrie features a script by Lawrence D. Cohen, music by Michael Gore and lyrics by Dean Pitchford. It held try out performances at the RSC base in Stratford before transferring to Broadway where it ran for a total of only 16 previews and 5 performances after receiving a LOT of bad reviews.

However, despite it's short run, the show gained a major cult following and was revived Off-Broadway in 2012 and in London and LA in 2015.

Songs from the show include 'Dream On', 'Open Your Heart', 'Out For Blood', 'Heaven' and 'I Remember How Those Boys Coudl Dance'.

Who was in the original cast of Carrie the musical?

The original cast featured Linzi Hateley as the title character alongside Betty Buckley, Sally Ann Triplett, Paul Gyngell, Charlotte D'Amboise, Gene Anthony Ray and Darlene Love.

Is there a cast recording of Carrie the musical available?

While there is no cast recording of the original production, an album of the 2012 revival is available featuring cast members Marin Mazzie, Molly Ranson, Christy Altomare, Derek Klena, Jeanna de Waal, Ben Thompson and Carmen Cusack.
