WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS AVENGERS: ENDGAME SPOILERS
Avengers: Endgame is finally here but now Marvel fans are wondering if an Avengers 5 is in the works. Does it have a release date? Who will star in the cast? What will happen in the plot? When will there be a trailer? What will the Avengers 5 title be?
21 'Avengers: Endgame' "spoilers with no context" memes that'll make you sob
Ever since Marvel released the very first Avengers film back in 2012, loyal MCU fans have loved seeing their favourite Marvel superheroes team up on screen. From Avengers: Age of Ultron to Captain America: Civil War, every time the Avengers come together, it's iconic. Avengers: Infinity War took the franchise to a whole new level and now Avengers: Endgame has closed the curtains on a 21 film saga in epic (and emotional) style. What's next for the Avengers?
Avengers: Endgame spoilers are coming up so please stop reading now if you wish to avoid them.
Okay. You're happy with spoilers? Proceed.
As it stands, Avengers 5 is yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel. However, given that Marvel are currently scheduled to put out nine films between 2020 and 2022, it seems likely that Avengers 5 will be one of them. Seeing as fan favourites Iron Man and Black Widow are now dead, and Captain America is an old man (more on that here), it is unlikely that they will return to the MCU but Marvel still has plenty of Avengers to star in an Avengers 5.
Marvel are also reportedly producing a Young Avengers film which will feature young successors to many of the MCU's most famous Avengers including Hawkeye (Kate Bishop or even Hawkeye's daughter), Hulkling, Iron Lad, Patriot, Wiccan, Stature and Vision.
Again there is still no confirmed date as to when Avengers 5 will come out. That being said, as we've already mentioned, the MCU has nine films in the works which are set to come out between 2020 and 2022. They also have these weekends in the calendar for those movies: May 1, 2020, July 21, 2020, November 6, 2020, May 7, 2021, July 30, 2021, November 5, 2021, February 18, 2022, May 6, 2022, July 29, 2022.
Our bet is that Avengers 5 will drop during one of the 2022 weekends, once newer avengers like Black Panther, Spider-Man and Captain Marvel have had more of a chance to establish themselves and lead a film with the likes of Thor, Hulk and the Guardians of the Galaxy cast. Something tells us that Young Avengers will drop beforehand though in 2020 or 2021.
The cast of Avengers 5 is also a secret at the moment but we reckon that it will probably star all of the characters who've led their own films. So expect Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Dr Strange (Benedict Cummberbatch), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) to all feature.
Other famous characters will likely star in it too: Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Karen Gillan (Nebula), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Benedict Wong (Wong), Happy (Jon Favreau), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Groot (Vin Diesel), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Bucky (Sebastian Stan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) - among others.
As we've already mentioned, it's likely that Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) won't appear in Avengers 5 based on the events of Avengers: Endgame but Marvel is no stranger to surprises, so it's not definite. A Black Widow film is in the works with Scarlett after all but it's probably a prequel.
It also seems likely that Avengers 5 will star the Young Avengers cast if it comes out beforehand. Again no word on who's playing who but 13 Reasons Why's Katherine Langford is rumoured to have been cast as Kate Bishop, Hawkeye's successor.
With Thanos defeated, Avengers 5 is likely to star an entirely new villain and plot that isn't related to Infinity Stones. There is no word yet on what that will be though. New villains are set to appear in Spider-Man: Far from Home so a new threat may be revealed.
Hoping and praying the title is Avengers: I love you 3000 (in which Morgan ressurrects her father Tony) but no clues just yet.
