The theme of 'American Horror Story' season 8 will be 'Apocalypse' and will include characters from both Murder House and Coven... but which cast members are returning and who are they playing?
Evan Peters is back on board for another season of 'American Horror Story'. He will be playing a hairdresser in 'Apocalypse', who is the grandson of Joan Collins' character, called Mr Gallant. Evan also reprised his role of Murder House's Tate Langdon and as well appearing in one episode as Hotel Cortez' owner, James Patrick March. Inn episode 8, he played Jeff, a robot engineer who works for The Collective.
Sarah Paulson will be returning to 'American Horror Story' for her eighth season in a row. She will be playing three characters this season (what's new?) and two will be characters we already know and love. Sarah will play new character Venable and will also reprise the roles of Billie Dean Howard, the medium from Murder House and Cordelia Goode (formerly Foxx), the current Supreme.
Kathy Bates returns to 'American Horror Story' after one season away (she didn't appear in AHS: Cult). She plays the terrifying Miriam Meade, a warden of the Outpost Three bunker and 'mother figure' to Cody Fern's Michael Langdon. It's later revealed that Ms Meade is a Satanist Cardinal who worships Satan and recognises Michael as the Antichrist. She dies when Cordelia burns her at the stake and is 'brought back to life' as a robot.
After years of speculation and rumours, it's now been confirmed that Jessica Lange will officially be returning to 'American Horror Story' for the first time since leaving the show after 'Freak Show' in 2015. She'll be reprising her role of the Langdon family matriarch Constance. It's been reported that she'll appear in one episode, and that episode (ep 6) will be directed by Sarah Paulson. Lange has been spotted on set during filming of the finale episode - could we see Constance one last time?
Legendary Hollywood icon Dame Joan Collins will be joining the cast for 'AHS: Apocalypse'. It's her first time appearing on the show. Joan has revealed that she will be playing "3 or 4 characters". Her first character is called Evie Gallant and is the grandmother of Evan Peters' character and her second character is a witch called Bubbles McGee, who can read the minds of men.
It was announced during a live-tweet of FX's 'POSE' that Emma Roberts would be returning to 'AHS'. She will be reprising her role as Madison Montgomery from 'Coven'. Madison was brought back from hell by Michael Langdon and later reunited with the Coven.
Billie Lourd, who was last seen in AHS: Cult, will be back back on board for another season of 'American Horror Story'. She plays a character called Mallory who ends up working as a servant in the bunker. After a brief altercation with Michael Langdon, it's revealed that Mallory is actually a witch, and part of Cordelia's Coven.
Adina Porter returns for her fourth season of 'American Horror Story' after appearing in briefly in 'Murder House' and having more prominent roles in 'Roanoke' and 'Cult'. Her character Dinah is an actress who is later revealed to be a witch with voodoo powers. She replaced Marie Laveau as the Voodoo Queen.
'Cult' fan favourite Leslie Grossman will be returning for her second season of 'AHS'. She plays Coco St Pierre Vanderbilt, a rich woman from LA who ends up fleeing the nuclear blast on a private jet and securing a spot in the bunker thanks to her rich father. It's later revealed that Coco is a witch and is part of the Coven.
Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman has been added as another new cast member for 'AHS: Apocalypse'. It's Bowyer-Chapman's first appearance on the show. He plays Andre, one of the inhabitants of Outpost Three.
Kyle Allen has been added as another new cast member for 'AHS: Apocalypse'. This will be Allen's first appearance on the show. He plays Timothy, a young man who was specifically selected to take shelter in Outpost Three by The Cooperative due to his flawless genetic make up. He strikes up a romance with Emily, another young woman who was selected specifically for the bunker.
Ash is another newcomer to the season and she'll be playing the role of Emily, one of the survivors of the apocalypse who ends up in the Outpost Three bunker. She arrives in the same fashion as Timothy but it's not yet known *why* Emily was selected to take shelter in the bunker.
Pose's very own Pray Tell is about to make his debut on 'American Horror Story'! Billy Porter has officially joined the cast of 'Apocalypse' and he'll be playing Behold, a member of the male coven. He joins forces with Cordelia once it's discovered that Michael has powers beyond imagination.
Cody Fern joins the cast as the grown up Antichrist Michael Langdon, Vivien Harmon and Tate Langdon's son from Murder House. As well as being the Antichrist and member of the Cooperative, Michael is also a warlock who possesses powers that rival the Supreme.
Despite being murdered in 'AHS: Hotel', it looks like Queenie will be back! Yep, Gabourey Sidibe has been cast in the eighth season of the series but in what capacity, we'll have to wait and see. As we all know, witches can resurrect the dead, but will they have to go to Hotel Cortez where she died to do it?!
Fans of 'American Horror Story' will remember Stevie Nicks' iconic turn as... herself... in 'AHS: Coven' and she'll be returning to make an appearance in the crossover season. So far, Stevie has only appeared in one episode - episode 5 - to sing 'Gypsy' to Misty as a 'welcome back' gift.
Fan favourite Lily Rabe will be back after one season away (she didn't appear in 'Cult'). We saw Misty brought back from hell by Michael Langdon after he performed the Seven Wonders in a flashback. It's not yet know if she is alive in the present day.
She's back! Taissa Farmiga will return to 'American Horror Story' and she'll be bringing her iconic roles of Zoe Benson and Violet Harmon back too! Zoe currently only appears in the show in the flashback scenes - it's not yet known if she's alive in the present day. As for Violet? She is still a ghost, bound to the Murder House.
Frances Conroy, who has been in almost every single season of AHS (she didn't appear in Hotel), will be back on our screens in 'Apocalypse'. Frances will reprise the roles of both Myrtle Snow from Coven and the housemaid in Murder House, Moira O'Hara.
Cheyenne Jackson is returning for another season of 'AHS'. He's previously appeared in 'Hotel', 'Roanoke' and 'Cult'. Jackson plays one of the head warlocks of the Hawthorne school for Exceptional Young Men.
The hilarious Billy Eichner will be returning to 'AHS' for another season following his iconic role as Harrison in 'Cult'. He plays Brock, Coco's lover who doesn't make it to the airport on time. He's left behind in LA as the nuclear bomb hits but manages to make it to the bunker 18 months later. Billy also plays the role of Mutt, a robot engineer at The Collective.
Jon Jon Briones joins the cast of American Horror Story for the first time this season. He plays the Grand Chancellor Ariel, a warlock who is involved with the Hawthorne school for Exceptional Young Men aka, the male Coven.
In his first season of American Horror Story, BD Wong will play the role of a high ranking warlock at the Hawthorne school for Exceptional Young Men.
Naomi Grossman returned to American Horror Story in a small but iconic role as one of the satanic worshippers that visit the Murder House. She arrives with Kathy Bates (Ms Meade) and Carlo Rota who plays the real life Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan and the religion of LaVeyan Satanism.
Carlo Rota joins the cast for the first this season, playing Anton LaVey, the real life founder of the Church of Satan and the religion of LaVeyan Satanism. He arrives at the Murder House to perform a ritual to set Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) on the path to becoming the Antichrist, along with Kathy Bates (Ms Meade) and Naomi Grossman.
Raina Matheson played the role of Constance's fourth child, Rose, a little girl with no eyes in the 'Return To Murder House' episode. She is the sister of Tate, Beauregard and Adelaide Langdon but details of why she has no eyes were never revealed.
Connie Britton is returning to American Horror Story for the first to reprise her iconic role of Vivien Harmon from Murder House. Connie will appear in one episode as Vivien - episode 6 titled 'Return To Murder House.'
Dad's back! Dylan McDermott returns to 'AHS' as Violet's dad Ben Harmon. He'll appear in one episode of Apocalypse, alongside Connie Britton, when the season revisits the place where it all began... the Murder House.
It's official, Papa Legba is back! Legba, the gatekeeper of the spirit world will appear in episode 7, titled 'Traitor'. Given that Dinah Stevens (Adina Porter) is a voodoo witch with ties to Marie Laveau, it looks like he'll be very much involved with her and whatever Cordelia has come to her for help with.
After months of speculation as to why Nan wasn't returning alongside the other resurrected Coven witches, Jamie Brewer finally made an unexpected return to the show in episode 7. If you recall from Coven, Marie and Fiona sacrificed Nan to Papa Legba and she's spent the past however many years at his side in the underworld.
Harriet Sansom Harris plays Madelyn, a Satanist woman who meets Michael at a Satanic meeting and discovers his true identity. She introduces him to the church where they recognise him as the Antichrist and later drives him to The Collective. (FYI, Harris also played Felicia Tilman on Desperate Housewives, which is why she looks so creepily familiar.)
Sandra Bernhard joins the cast for a brief appearance in 'Apocalypse' as a Satanic priest who encourages her congregants to do bad things and bring evil into the world. Hannah leads the Satanic church in worship and later recognises Michael as the Antichrist.
