Shhhh!
If for some reason you want to be terrified a second time by A Quiet Place then we have good news for you: a sequel is already in the works.
Variety reports that Paramount studio chief Jim Gianopulos announced the news yesterday (April 25) at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. “We’re thrilled to say that we’re already working on the sequel to A Quiet Place”, he told the attendees, although he did not confirm any further details.
If you're not already in the loop, A Quiet Place follows John Kransinski (The Office) and his real-life wife, Emily Blunt, as a couple with two small children who have to be absolutely silent to avoid being attacked by creatures attracted by noise. We've seen it and, honestly, we've been having nightmares ever since.
The film was relatively cheap to make, at a modest $17 million budget, yet it has grossed $213 million worldwide so far, making it a HUGE profit winner for Paramount, defying box-office expectations.
No release date has been set for the sequel yet and it hasn't been announced if Krasinski and Blunt will return to their roles (although we can't imagine the studio giving it to anyone else. Kransinski's next project will be to direct the sci-fi thriller Life On Mars for Paramount.
As many people have noted, the first film only scratched the surface of the universe in which the characters live. The origin of the creatures and how much of the rest of the earth are affected hasn't been explored yet, so there is plenty of potential for a second (and a third) movie.
