In the books, John Ambrose is related to Stormy but P.S. I Still Love You doesn't even mention it.
To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You has been in our lives for all of three days (at time of writing) and already, we're living vicariously through the trials and tribulations of Lara Jean's love life.
Are we team Peter? Are we team John Ambrose? (Honestly, why not both?) But the new film has come with a long list of differences and omissions from the original book, leaving some fans less than thrilled.

The role of John Ambrose was, of course, re-cast ahead of production on P.S. I Still Love You. The actor who previously played the role was Jordan Burtchett (who appeared in a mid-credit scene in To All The Boys) before Jordan Fisher stepped in to play the role in the sequel.
But that big change isn't the one we're talking about. In the book, there's also one major detail about John Ambrose and Stormy's relationship that is completely ignored in the film. In the books, John Ambrose is actually Stormy's grandson.
The omission of that detail has been called out on social media. Many fans were looking forward to seeing John and Stormy's dynamic and relationship play out on screen. But none of that was featured in the sequel.
In the books, Stormy – played by the incomparable Holland Taylor – is John's grandmother by marriage. She makes various references to her grandson, who is the same age as Lara Jean, but never mentions John by name. John doesn't volunteer at Belleview either so Lara Jean never puts two and two together.
Instead, Lara Jean reignites her relationship with John Ambrose by responding to his letter. They become pen pals and Lara Jean later invites him to dig up their old time-capsule like in the film. Lara Jean then finds out that John is Stormy's grandson when he attends a Belleview party that she organises.
In the film version of P.S. I Still Love You, it's not mentioned, nor is it even implied, that Stormy and John Ambrose are related. John is simply just a volunteer at Belleview and doesn't have much else to do with Stormy. Similar to the books, Stormy roots for Lara Jean and John to get together but she doesn't actively try to set them up like she does in the books.

wait i'm confused... wasn't Stormy supposed to be John Ambrose's grandma?? they changed it from the book?? i feel like that also was a big reason why she liked John Abrose too. #PSIStillLoveYou #ToAllTheBoys #ToAlltheBoys2 pic.twitter.com/omWY4vtUfT

Other notable omissions from the book include the game of Assassins, the USO party and the car scene at the red light with John Ambrose and Lara Jean. And that's just to name a few... there's plenty more but as expected with book to movie adaptations, sometimes nothing everything can be included.
Justice for Stormy and John Ambrose though. Justice for that duo.
