Viral TikToks have mistakenly claimed that Steve Lacy smashed a fan's phone at the New Orleans concert.

Steve Lacy stopped his show in New Orleans after being hit by an object during a performance of his hit song ‘Bad Habit’.

Earlier this year, ‘Bad Habit’ became a viral sound on TikTok and was subsequently catapulted to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, ending Harry Styles’ 15 week-reign with ‘As It Was’.

The single was followed by Steve’s critically-acclaimed second album, Gemini Rights. Prior to this, Steve had found success as the guitarist in The Internet, an offshoot of hip-hop collective Odd Future.

Despite being hit by an object, Steve is facing some heat online for how he handled the situation at the New Orleans show.

During his performance, Steve lost his temper after a fan threw an object on stage, which hit his leg. Steve was so annoyed that he stopped the song and asked the fan for their disposable camera, only to then smash it by throwing it against the floor of the stage.

The incident has since gone viral on TikTok, with many calling out Steve for smashing what they believed to be a fan's phone.

One viral TikTok from the show mistakenly claimed that Steve smashed up a fan’s phone after being hit on stage, while another viral TikTok claimed he stormed off stage and didn’t return. However, other videos from the concert contradict both of those claims.

In the videos below, Steve can be seen taking what looks like a disposable camera from a fan, not a phone. And in another TikTok video, posted by the same account who mistakenly claimed it was a phone, Steve comes back on stage to finish his performance and explains what happened to the audience.

According to Steve, being hit by the object took him out of the “meditative” state he requires to perform his music, and he acknowledged that being hit made him feel irritable.

From the videos, we weren't able to verify if the fan who threw the object at Steve is the same fan who had their disposable camera smashed. When Steve returned to the stage, he did suggest he had singled the fan out deliberately, saying "it was all love" but that they "needed to be punished in the moment".

He wrote: "My shows been fun as hell! Shoutout to the people not throwing disposable cameras at me and just coming to catch a vibe and connect :) I had a really good time in nola last night. I hate that the beauty of the connection i have with so many people in the crowd-gets lost when something negative happens. I don’t believe i owe anyone an apology- maybe i couldve reacted better? sure. always. i’m a student of life. but i’m a real person with real feelings and real reactions. i’m not a product or a robot. i am human. i will continue to give my all at these shows. please come with respect for urself and others please thank you love u"
