Marina and the Diamonds has confirmed that her first new music in three years will be released in January, with an album potentially following in April.
Speaking to PopBuzz on the red carpet of Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball this weekend (Dec 9), Marina Diamandis revealed that she had completed work on her as-yet-untitled fourth album and would be releasing music next month.
Aside from two songs with Clean Bandit ('Disconnect' in 2017 and their current single 'Baby'), Marina has not released any new music since 2015. Initially hesitant to spill the beans on the record, Marina explained: "I want to tell people details all the time but I can't because I have been planning it for ages."
"It's not really conceptual in ways like Electra Heart was but there is a looser... there is a concept in terms of how it's going to be released that you will find out in April but I am going to release a new song in January".
Marina described the first songs (note the plural there!) as "really different to the singles we're going to select for the album". She added that "the production of this album is very different [to the other albums]".
In the run up to FROOT, her critically-acclaimed third album, Marina released a new song each month for six months before the album dropped (she called this strategy "Froot of the Month" and accompanied it with exclusive merchandise for each track). Asked if she was planning something similar, Marina responded "not really" but didn't expand on what she has planned.
Marina also said she would love to collaborate with her friend Lana Del Rey on a track, describing her as "one of the best artists of our generation".
