Doja Cat thanks Nicki Minaj after scoring first Number 1 with ‘Say So’
Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj are the first two female rappers to ever top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with a collaboration.
It's official. Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj have topped the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Say So' following the release of Nicki's remix.
Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj took on stiff competition from Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé with 'Savage', but ultimately they came out on top. 'Say So' marks Doja and Nicki's first Number 1 single ever. Doja previously reached Number 41 in the US with her 2019 hit 'Juicy'. Meanwhile, Nicki almost topped the charts back in 2014 when 'Anaconda' peaked at Number 2.

Following Billboard's chart announcement, both artists have taken to social media to celebrate their historic achievement. Not only is it the first time that two female rappers have ever topped the chart together but it's also the first time that four black women have occupied the Top 2 at once. Megan and Beyoncé are currently Number 2 with the 'Savage' remix.
Taking to Instagram, Nicki wrote: "Can’t thank you guys enough for going so hard to help us make history. I saw it all. You’ll never understand how much you uplift me. I love you so much." She then added: "Dear @dojacat, thanks for trusting me with your baby. Hope I lived up to your expectations. You’re so extremely talented & so deserving of this moment."
Meanwhile, Doja took to Instagram Live to thank Nicki too. She said: "It's cooler than anything I could ever fucking imagine. Thank you, Nicki Minaj, so much and thank you to the Barbs... What a fucking beautiful bunch of people." Megan also congratulated the girls tweeting: "I’m happy to be apart of the history that was made today".
However, there has been some backlash to Doja and Nicki topping the charts with 'Say So'. The song was produced by Dr. Luke.
In October 2014, Dr. Luke came under fire after Kesha filed a series of lawsuits against him, alleging that he had sexually assaulted her. 'Say So' marks his first Number 1 since 2014.
Kesha fans have criticised Dr. Luke's involvement in the song. One person tweeted: "Kesha risked her career to come out against Dr. Luke in court, and get justice for being abused. Today, that man is currently #1 on the Billboard Charts. He is suing her for “ruining his career”. His career is not ruined."

I'm not coming for Doja nor Nicki but I'm disgusted at the fact that yall just let a song (Say So) produced by the rapist dr Luke go #1...you'll tweet #FreeKesha for couple RTs and likes but then will stream his work on the low I have no words pic.twitter.com/dz1D1v5Yh1

Nearly six years after Kesha accused him of raping her, Dr. Luke is back at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while each of her last four singles failed to crack the chart.

Where the fuck are America's priorities right now?
Seeing that Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj got their first #1 and then realising Dr Luke has a writing credit on the song pic.twitter.com/CCwLnEeFPb

Just a reminder that this was produced by Dr. Luke and is his first hit since Kesha alleged in court five years ago that he drugged and raped her. https://t.co/uJdFgTTprO

Doja Cat signed to Dr. Luke's label, Kemosabe Records, as a teenager so it's unclear if she's legally required to work with him or not.
