Here's all the details on the NHS COVID-19 app.

Following the coronavirus pandemic, things seem like they're slowly and steadily returning back to normal, however, it's definitely not over. We all need to do our part to protect our loved ones and the wider community, and the fastest way to do that is with the NHS COVID-19 app.

When we all download and use the app, we're helping keep our friends, family and more, safe. The app cleverly lets you know if you've been in close contact with someone who has had coronavirus and it shows you the risk in your area, stopping us from potentially spreading it further. You can also book a test if you have symptoms and keep on top of the latest government advice.

So, here's how to download and use the NHS COVID-19.

How to download and use the NHS COVID-19 app.

1) Downloading the app is free, simple and available in England and Wales from Thursday 24 September 2020. If you're using an iPhone, all you need to do is head to the Apple App Store, while Android users can download it from Google Play.

2) You can check in at public places like bars, pubs and restaurants using the built-in QR code scanner so you can be contacted if there is an outbreak linked to that venue. You've probably seen the official NHS QR code posters dotted around businesses in your area, well instead of punching in your details every time, when you're using the app all you have to do is scan the QR code.

3) You can check if you have any coronavirus symptoms using the app according to the latest government advice. If you need to book a test, the app will then help you get one online. If you receive a positive result, you can tell the app, and it will notify any app user who you've come into recent close contact with via an anonymous notification.

4) Don't worry, you're not being tracked. The app doesn't use GPS and can't track your location, monitor if you are self-isolating, or see personal information on your phone. It protects your privacy using Apple and Google's proven Bluetooth technology.

5) Any data shared with the app will only be stored on your phone, so if you decide to delete the app, all the data is deleted too.
