Walmart apologises for Christmas sweater showing Santa with lines of 'cocaine'

Walmart pulled the sweater from its marketplace and apologised for any "offence caused". Now some social media users are wondering where to buy the "let it snow" Walmart Christmas sweaters.

Tis' the season for some absolutely bizarre Christmas apparel from everyone's favourite (?) retail giant, Walmart. Walmart has apologised and pulled a sweater from its Canadian website that appeared to portray Santa Claus sitting in front of three thin, suspicious-looking white lines. Social media users have said the lines look like "cocaine".

The description for the item also went viral and opened with the line: "We all know how snow works. It's white, powdery, and the best snow comes straight from South America." It also noted that Santa likes to "savour the moment" when he gets his hands on "grade A Colombian snow". Yes, it's...heavy-handed.

Stunned social media users circulated images of the blue Christmas sweater which had the words "let it snow" emblazoned on the front along with the image of Santa and his "powder".

Social media users joked about the "bold" Christmas designs and even expressed an interest in buying the now-pulled sweaters.

"Not sure what Walmart was thinking when they decided to put these sweaters out for market, but I really wish I bought one before they stopped selling them," said one person.

In a statement to Global News Canada, Walmart said: "These sweaters, sold by a third-party seller on Walmart.ca, do not represent Walmart’s values and have no place on our website. We have removed these products from our marketplace. We apologize for any unintended offence this may have caused."

According to Global News Canada, the sweaters are made by a third party clothing retailer called Fun Wear. Other Christmas-themed sweaters with dubious imagery were also removed from Walmart's site.
