ASOS are getting dragged for labelling a size UK 14 as "XL"

Because buying clothes isn't quite difficult enough.
Shopping has become a hard task in recent years, particularly when it comes to sizing. You might be one size in one store and then three sizes bigger in another. So imagine, one shopper's shock when they went to find out their true size on ASOS' website and discovered that a UK 14 (US 10) had been labelled an XL.

Well, that's exactly what happened to Marina O'Loughlin – and she was fuming. Marina shared a screenshot of ASOS' size guide on Twitter and revealed their odd labelling.
The image showed a UK 6 was labelled as XS, UK 8 as a S, UK 10 as a M, UK 12 as L and a UK 14 as XL. For context, the average size of a woman in the UK is a 16, while in America it's a US 16 to 18.
Dear @ASOS - since when was a size 14 'XL'?? pic.twitter.com/yZD60qFpQH

Needless to say, the internet wasn't happy and soon women were sharing their sizing troubles with other brands too.
It’s a joke. I typed in XL on a website the other day and it offered me 12-14. Fuck off. I’m not 10.

Since we started believing that size 0 was an actual clothing size. My favourite game is asking for a size 12 in the designer section of the likes of Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. They have no idea how to deal with this request.

Since Zara started dictating the sizing

An ASOS spokesperson has now responded to the backlash, and said: "We offer fashion in over 30 different sizes, reflecting the needs of our diverse, global customer base and our ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy, positive body image.
"Based on the measurements of some of our third party brands, the size XL on this product is equivalent in our sizing chart to a UK 14."
