YouTube Rewind just revealed the most liked videos of the year.
YouTube Rewind 2019 is here aaand guess what? Everyone hates it.
2018's YouTube Rewind was so bad, it became the most disliked video in the history of YouTube with over 17m thumbs down, sparing Justin Bieber's 'Baby' from the title. At time of writing this sentence, YouTube Rewind 2019 is already the 19th most disliked video in YouTube history.

Instead of creating something new, this year's Rewind shows the top 5 to 10 videos that sit within a series of categories: Most Liked Creator Videos of 2019, Most Liked Music Videos, Most Liked Dance Videos, Most Viewed Gaming Videos, Break Out Creators, Most Viewed Creators (of course, it was PewDiePie) and the Most Liked Beauty Videos.
The winner of that last category was James Charles, who managed to beat Kylie Jenner, Shane Dawson, Jeffree Star and Anaysa to the title.
James's 'Makeup Tutorial en Español' garnered a whopping 1.6m likes. The video was posted in March 2019 and currently has over 17m views but, surprisingly, doesn't even feature in his top 10 most watched videos of all time. (It's his 16th.)
The video features James doing his entire makeup routine while speaking in Spanish. ¡HOLA HERMANAS! indeed.

The video beat Shane Dawson's 'The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star' (1.4m likes), Kylie Jenner's 'A Day in the Life' (1.3m likes), Jeffree Star's 'Kylie Skin Review with Shane Dawson' (1.1m likes) and Anaysa's '7 Life Saving HACKS for Perfect SKIN & HAIR' (540k likes)
James' 'No More Lies' video, which was a follow up to his apology response to Tati Westbrook's 'Bye Sister...' video was also the 7th most liked creator video of the year, with 2.4 million likes. The video was a huge turning point for James, who had taken a massive hit after Tati's video was released.
The most liked creator video of the year was Mr Beast's 'Make This The Most Liked YouTube Video On YouTube' with 10.9 million likes, followed by PewDiePie's 'Marzia & Felix Wedding' video coming in second with 4.3 million likes.

Of course, we have to say a HUGE congratulations to James for his incredible feat (two 'most liked' videos) but some people couldn't help but feel like the same faces get celebrated in these kind of ranked systems.
Many creators have taken to Twitter to criticise the video, like Ethan Dolan who called the whole thing "very out of touch."
"There’s more to creating than numbers! We need to give people credit for their effort/talent, not how much attention they get. very cool people were given recognition in the vid but for the wrong reasons I feel... :/"
Pretty disappointed in YouTube rewind tbh.. very out of touch. There’s more to creating than numbers! We need to give people credit for their effort/talent, not how much attention they get. very cool people were given recognition in the vid but for the wrong reasons I feel... :/

The part where YT jumped on the band wagon & hated on themselves for last years rewind after actually putting a lot of effort into that project rubbed me the wrong way. Had a great opportunity to show effects of something you’re proud of being shit on & being able to bounce back

Lastly, YT stated that this video was strictly created for the viewers basically to avoid the hate they recieved last year. Not a good message to promote. You should always create for YOURSELF, not for the approval of others

He's not wrong. Here's hoping we see some newer faces celebrated in next year's recap.
Oh, and by the way... in the time it took to write this article, YouTube Rewind 2019 is now on 2.4 million dislikes. It's now the 16th most disliked video on YouTube. Yikes.
