Um, there's always 2020?
The year is almost up, which can only mean one thing – YouTube Rewind. YouTube have just released their annual review highlighting the biggest creators in the game. Needless to say, it's not going down particularly well.

If you remember YouTube Rewind 2018 wasn't exactly a hit either, in fact, it was the most disliked video in YouTube history… yikes. So, you'd think that YouTube would try and go above and beyond this year. After all, 2019 gave us the James Charles and Tati Westbrook feud, followed shortly by the James Charles vs Jeffree Star drama, and more recently, Trisha Paytas' transgender video.
However, the almost six minute clip instead focused on the most-liked videos on the platform, including music videos from Lil Nas X and Billie Eilish. Shane Dawson’s conspiracy theories video and James Charles' "No More Lies" video also made the list. "In 2018, we made something you didn’t like. So in 2019, let’s see what you DID like. Because you’re better at this than we are," the video read.
Alas, it wasn't quite the hit. The video currently has 2.2 million dislikes (compared to 1.1million likes…) and YouTube users have called it "boring" in the comment section.

People weren't much kinder on Twitter either and the general consensus was that the whole thing was just extremely underwhelming.
in 2018 we made something you didn't like... so in 2019... we made something so boring that there's no way for you to form any sort of opinion on it, which creates indifference, which means it CAN'T be hated.*** #YouTubeRewind https://t.co/sknrQ9RSNy

YouTube Rewind, presented by WatchMojo. Could this be the most boring thing possible?

Surprisingly, it wasn't all bad reviews. Some noted how YouTube Rewind was much more inclusive this year, including more international and new creators.
I thought #YouTubeRewind was actually hella cute 🥺 ppl stay mad no matter what they make. Obv didn’t have the wow factor of past years but I loved the celebration of breakout and international creators ✨

i liked rewind 2019. not as sensational or produced as years passed but i appreciate;

-not just same old faces (except my same old face)
-highlighting new creators
-how international it was
-the focus on likes and channel growth
-seeing @pewdiepie https://t.co/RuRaxux7y6
#YouTubeRewind much better this year imo. Focusing on what viewers actually liked/viewed instead of what YouTube 'thinks' they did.

Would have liked to have seen the best Tech videos featured. Maybe I'm a 'little' biased but Tech is huge and growing part of the platform. https://t.co/tpwBjUrX1S
at least it's not painfully awful https://t.co/Y2PEC4k0cD

funny how the year that youtube decides to make a digest listing of the top videos is the same year that #youtuberewind has the most diverse video in history.

crazy how that works.
