Fly steals the show as it lands on Pence's head
"Maya Rudolph gonna body that "Mr Vice President, I'm speaking" next Saturday"
There's now less than one month to go before the United States takes to the polls on election day, and the stakes couldn't be higher.
Last night, the highly-anticipated vice presidential debate between current vice president Mike Pence and Democratic VP nominee Kamala Harris took place in Salt Lake City, Utah. Why highly-anticipated? Well, a looooot of people couldn't wait to watch Harris eat Pence up on the stage.
Thankfully, it wasn't as much of a shit show as the absolutely shambolic attempt at a debate between Biden and Trump last month (Sept 29). Interruptions were kept to somewhat of a minimum, with Harris and Pence sat behind two barriers of plexiglass – a precaution following the recent outbreak of Covid-19 in the Trump team.
Despite the topics discussed (Coronavirus, Climate Change, Race, Health Care...), the main talking points of the night on social media included the fly that landed on Mike Pence's head and Kamala Harris' instantly viral "I'm speaking" moment.

Here are all the best Vice Presidential debate memes and reactions from Twitter...
The fly on Mike Pence's head
The clear winner of the night was the fly that landed on Pence's head toward the end of the debate, and didn't move for several minutes. Multiple parody accounts have now been set up, it's been given the 'Chromatica II into 911' transition treatment... Even Sarah Jessica Parker even gave us a stunning piece of Instagram poetry about the moment.
It went unmentioned during the debate, but its legacy lives on thanks to the memes. And now we ask the important question: Who will play the fly on SNL this week?
Everyone jealous because I got the best seat for the debate tonight.

Kamala Harris' facial expressions
Thanks to Harris' strong debate reputation, many viewers were looking forward to her taking on Pence. Last night, instead of interrupting and biting back at some of Pence's comments, she let her expressions do the talking. As a result, everyone now has a whole host of new facial expressions to add to their meme reaction folders.

"Mr Vice President, I am speaking"
While there wasn't as many interruptions as the presidential debate, Mike Pence interrupted Kamala Harris 16 times according to NBC's data. In response, Harris repeatedly said, “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking.”
That wasn't her only phrase to go viral on the night. After moderator Susan Page addressed Harris as Kamala instead of Senator Harris, Harris responded: “It’s fine, I’m Kamala.”
my safe word is “mr vice president i am speaking”
