Halloween 2020 is looking up.
With trick or treating banned in Los Angeles, and the Karen Halloween mask being sold out, teens on TikTok are creatively coming up with new ways to celebrate Halloween 2020. So, now ghost photoshoots have become a viral trend on TikTok.
Basically, the trend involves teens dressing up in white sheets to look like ghosts and head to a photoshoot-worthy location. Easy. Some are adding sunglasses, or eye holes to their ghost getups and a vintage filter adds to the ~ spooky ~ aesthetic, while the videos are usually set to Jack Stauber’s 'Oh Klahoma'.
The trend is thought to have started in Asia but now it's gone global and the ghostphotoshoot hashtag has received over 2 billion views on TikTok.

Whilst a ghost photoshoot seems innocent enough, some have criticised the participants of the trend. Some have said that the white sheets are reminiscent of the outfits worn by the KKK, a historic white supremacist group. Given what's going on with Black Lives Matter right now, people are calling it a little insensitive.
if i saw a group of people dressed up like this, i would run for my life.

please think about the possible associations with this ghost trend. https://t.co/oF01rXnYYl
Perhaps the trend comes from an innocent place; ultimately oddly-timed for it to happen this year given all the national convo’s about another group that wears white sheets for a different reason.

To be fair, before 2020 I would have looked at this picture and gone "oh yeah, ghosts, halloween, lol" and now I looked at it and went "KKK?.... oh... nope, ghosts, false alarm"
