"I'm mad that I’m crying at a car ad". People are feeling emotional over a new Renault CLIO advert with a same-sex love story at the heart of it.
You don't have to be an advertising expert to know that the secret to a great commercial is its ability to connect with audiences on an emotional level. The internet is feeling especially emotional this week over a lesbian love story featured in a short film that just so happens to be a...Renault CLIO car advert, of all things.

French automaker Renault is celebrating 30 years of its CLIO model and its ad, titled "The All-New Renault CLIO", is warming hearts on the internet and beyond.
The ad is set to a slow piano version of 'Wonderwall' by Oasis and in it, two girls meet at a young age, become best friends and realise as teens that they are in love with each other.
30 Years in the making | The All-New Renault CLIO
Later in life, after being separated because of homophobic family members and a marriage, the two reunite and form a family that includes a young daughter. And, oh yeah, they drive a Renault CLIO –you mustn't forget the car bit.
30 years of driving Renault CLIOs is essentially the invisible thread that runs throughout the ad but it's so subtle that you're really only focused on the love story unfolding.
Anyway, people cannot BELIEVE that Renault managed to pack this much heart into a damn car commercial.
shout out to the queer filmmaker who packed their great short film into a car ad??????? https://t.co/oPbVzxAWml

Yes, capitalism is wild and powerful (?) enough to make us all emotional over a CAR AD but who doesn't love cinéma, right?
