Speaker Nancy Pelosi just gave a new meaning to the phrase "clap back"...

You know that moment when a meme manifests live on TV right in front of your very eyes? It doesn't happen often but when it does, it's truly a moment to behold. That exact thing happened yesterday when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stood up to applaud Donald Trump with what looked like the pettiest and most condescending clap of all time. And the internet is losing it.

The State of Union address happened yesterday (Feb 6) and all attention was *supposed* to be on Trump as he delivered his speech. Except throughout his entire speech, Pelosi was stealing the attention behind him. (Seriously, what was she looking at? What was she holding? Was she reading his speech as he was saying it?!)

And in the dying seconds, as he fielded applause from some members of the house, he turned to Pelosi who gave him a clap for the ages. Maybe she was being petty, maybe she was being genuine, WHO KNOWS? But what we do know is that that clap has now gone viral and the memes are coming in hot.

And in that moment, in the words of Patton Oswalt, the "fuck you" clap was invented. Many people took to social media before Pelosi had even sat back down to turn that clap into what will undoubtably be one of 2019's most iconic memes.
