JoJo Siwa says today's music is "not true music"

In a new Rolling Stone profile, kid-friendly YouTube sensation JoJo Siwa revealed that she thinks today's music is not "true music" and also said that she hopes to make music that is timeless.
In a fascinating new interview with Rolling Stone, JoJo Siwa said "today’s music that is being released is not music. It’s not true music." In the profile with the music magazine, JoJo aired her thoughts and feelings about the state of the industry today and praised "music back in the Eighties, Seventies, and Nineties."
The YouTuber and 16-year-old pop sensation raised eyebrows on social media after saying that modern music is not "true music". JoJo did praise the "phenomenal" vocals of modern artists but pointed out that many do not play instruments.
“Today’s music that is being released is not music. It’s not true music,” she said.
“There’s no instruments that are being played in it. People have phenomenal vocals, but it’s not true music. Music back in the Eighties, Seventies, and Nineties, they didn’t have the technology, so they had to do real music. And they were musicians. They were incredible.”
Some were quick to point out that the genre of music that she makes would likely fall into the very category she is criticising.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion, especially as an evolving artist.
JoJo also explained to the publication that she sees herself "going into more musical music that will be timeless," telling Rolling Stone that she often goes to sleep with a piano on her bed.
It's nothing new for a young artist to see themselves going in a new direction musically as their tastes mature. The music that Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus made a decade ago on the Disney Channel is certainly not the same music they make today.
For now, though, JoJo Siwa's brand of kid-friendly pop has brought her a great deal of success on the internet and IRL. Earlier this year, Cosmopolitan guessed her net worth at around 12 to 15 million dollars and then there is her D.R.E.A.M. tour, which is headed to the UK very soon.
