Sen. Kamala Harris on Maya Rudolph's impersonation of her
Let's just say, Maya Rudolph will be VERY busy during the build up to the election.
Yesterday (Aug 11), Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden officially announced that Senator Kamala Harris would be his running mate for the upcoming 2020 election.
Despite many being critical of Harris' controversial record as a prosecutor and as Attorney General of California, the majority agreed that Biden made a good choice. The news sent the internet into meltdown for a multitude of reasons.
Firstly, Sen. Harris will be the first Black woman and South Asian American to run on a presidential ticket from either of the two main US political parties. She's also the third woman to be selected as a VP candidate. (No woman has ended up on the winning ticket, however.)
The other reason as to why people were so hyped about the news was because of Maya Rudolph. During the Democratic party debates, Rudolph impersonated Harris on Saturday Night Live, with her hilarious performance earning her an Emmy nomination.
Following the news, Twitter reacted, as always, with memes. Here are some of the best reactions...

Luckily enough, EW were interviewing Maya when the news was announced and caught her reaction as it happened. While she didn't immediately commit to returning to SNL, she hinted that she's open to reprising her role.
"I love going to the show. Any excuse I can get, I love. I just didn't really anticipate traveling during a pandemic, but if there's anyone that can work it out I'm sure Lorne [Michaels] has some sort of invisible helicopter that can get me there," she joked.

Watch Maya Rudolph’s Emmy nominated performance as Kamala Harris
Multiple clips of Harris during the Dem debates and in senate hearings have gone viral in the past. Many believe that she'll absolutely destroy the current Vice President on the stage.
The vice presidential debate will take place on October 7th in Utah.
