21 Savage is British and the memes are causing controversy...
We may only be one month in but 2019 has already blessed us with some of the wildest memes of all time. People are taking inspiration from everything and anything this year and the results are hilarious. An egg snagging Kylie Jenner's record for the most liked Instagram photo ever? A meme. Powerful Shaggy? A meme. Drag Race's Naomi Smalls and Valentina whispering Club 96? A meme. However, it's this latest meme that's causing controversy.
Demi Lovato leaves Twitter after Wale calls her out for her 21 Savage meme tweet
Last night, TMZ reported that 21 Savage had been detained by ICE and could be facing deportation to the UK. According to them, 21 Savage moved to the US from the UK at the age of 12 and his visa is said to have expired in 2006, a year after he immigrated. The situation is, of course, extremely serious and not funny at all but it has sparked a huge variety of memes because people can't believe that 21 Savage is British.
Check out the 21 Savage memes below.

The memes themselves are simply people poking fun at the fact that 21 Savage has been British this whole time and no one knew. Considering that 21 Savage grew up in Atlanta as a teenager, it is understandable why longterm fans and the general public at large didn't realise he's from the UK. The memes have received criticism though form stars including the likes of Wale and Offset.
Take a look at the memes and see what you think.

If 21 Savage is really British, they really are the best actors and I understand now why they keep getting all the good black roles in Hollywood

Considering that gravity of 21's situation, it's understandable why people don't find the memes funny at all regardless of the intent behind them. Most people aren't making light of 21 Savage's potential deportation, and are even offering him their support, but the memes are still attached to something that is no joke at all.
Our thoughts are with 21 Savage at this time.
