Police Inspector Remanded

A Nottinghamshire police officer's been remanded into custody after appearing in court accused of sexual offences against a 13 year old girl.

44-year-old Inspector Russell Dew will be back in court later this month.

Each count relates to alleged offences which took place between May 1 and July 31 last year in the Newark area.

Dew appeared in the dock for a 45-minute hearing, flanked by two security guards.

The Inspector who was based at Mansfield police station but is now suspended from duty, was arrested on Thursday.

He was remanded in custody by the district judge and told he will appear again at Sheffield Crown Court on August 8.
