Shawmila fans, it is finally official. Shawn Mendes has revealed that his smash hit 'Treat You Better' is about Camila Cabello.
Ever since Shawn Mendes released 'Treat You Better' in 2011, fans have speculated that the lyrics are about Camila Cabello. In the song, Shawn sings about being able to treat a girl that he's friends with better than her boyfriend does. Passionately, Shawn pleads: "Tell me why are we wasting time / On all your wasted crying / When you should be with me instead".

Shawn never said who it was about at the time but, after he and Camila began dating in 2019, he revealed that he had been in love with Camila for years and was just waiting for her to reciprocate his feelings. It didn't take long for people to put two and two together and now Shawn has confirmed who inspired his Treat You Better lyrics in his new documentary.
Is Treat You Better about Camila Cabello?
In a new snippet from his Netflix documentary In Wonder, Shawn opens up about his relationship with Camila. He says: "For the past four years, just being friends and not see each other very often, to finally being able to be together, she was always there to look out for me as a human being. She's got my back, and I think that's what your partner's for."
Shawn then continues: "We're in New York, and my song comes on the radio and the fact comes up that it's about her. And I'm like 'Yeah, it's about you.' Everything's about you. They've always been about you. She goes 'What do you mean?' I'm like 'They're all about you, like every song I've ever wrote."
He then gets specific: "And I'm rhyming off the songs like, 'Treat You Better', all these songs. She's like 'Oh my God!" She literally had no idea. This whole time I thought she knew." In other words, the elaborate theories that 'Treat You Better' is about Camila are true.

As to whether Shawn will write songs about his relationship with Camila now, he said: "I don't think I'll ever be able to write songs that really do it justice, that can really capture the things and the feelings with her. I think it's like when you see a moon or stars and you try to take a photo of it with your iPhone, and then you just can't, it doesn't look good."
Shawn added: "And you're like, 'Ah it's not supposed to be captured.' You know? It's just supposed to be for us".
