Shawn Mendes called out for "mocking" Taylor Swift with John Mayer

Taylor Swift fans are slamming Shawn Mendes and John Mayer for making fun of her 'Lover' lyrics on Instagram live.
Shawn Mendes is coming under fire for a video in which it looks like he and John Mayer ridicule Taylor Swift's 'Lover' lyrics.
Taylor Swift has long been a supporter of Shawn Mendes. Back in 2015, the 29-year-old invited Shawn to be her support act on the 1989 world tour, and since then she's praised Shawn's talent multiple times in interviews.
Last week (Nov 13), Shawn and Taylor released a surprise remix of Taylor's hit single 'Lover'. Taylor also shared a video in which she said she's "a huge fan of" Shawn. Meanwhile, Shawn tweeted: "Thank you @taylorswift13 for letting me join you on such a beautiful song."

However, Shawn is now facing backlash from Taylor Swift fans. They believe he is mocking Taylor in a new video.
On Sunday (Nov 17), Shawn went on Instagram live with popular musician and Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriend John Mayer ('Dear John' hive assemble). In the video, the two stars discuss Shawn's 'Lover' remix. John says: "I like the song very much" and Shawn says "thank you". John continues: "I love your verse", before adding: "I'm only gonna say one thing and I know it's gonna go far and wide throughout the media but I'm a guy, I'm a musician, I can talk about a song. Love the song."
John then mocks Taylor's lyrics. He says: "I really like the song but I get a little chuckle because she says: 'We can keep the Christmas lights up until January'. And I go: 'You're insane? Everyone keeps their Christmas lights up until January!". And I go: "Can you really? 'cause normally I take my Christmas lights down on December 29th." And, as opposed to defending Taylor, Shawn laughs. He clarifies that John likes the song but doesn't question John for making fun of Taylor.
Naturally, fans of Taylor are upset with Shawn's reaction. They're also angry that Shawn hasn't spoken in defence of Taylor, since she claimed that Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta were blocking her from performing any of her old songs live on TV.
One fan called Shawn "useless" and another tweeted: "So not only did Shawn NOT say anything, John called Taylor insane and shit on the Xmas lights lyrics. I don't want to hear from a single Shawn stan right now."
